Solid Trans Mount?
#1

Does anyone make a solid transaxle mount for the 968 01E unit? I had a Kokeln piece back when I was 5 speed but have been unable to locate someone who has already created a 968 unit. Worst case I can get them CNC'd for me (and a few spares to offset the cost), but if there is already one on the market I'll just purchase that. Thanks!

I linked the auction for you. That should make it easier to access.

i had this conversation with pete - we are opting to do better motor mounts at this time, to alleviate the transmission movement - the solid mount out there transmits WAY too much vibration for street use

i will be at the shop today and try to prod my memory on who made the solid mount

The mount that was linked to does not fit the 968

I bought several for guys over here in the UK. 1 x of us has an S2 so his will fit. Mine was modified to make it fit, but i am not happy with it. The bushes have a collar inserted in them that goes through the top plate of the mount, with a bush either side. Where it bolts upto the cross member it tightens fully on the collar, therefore effectively making it a solid mount. Has only been on the car for a few hundred miles plus 2 trackdays - does make a considerable difference. i am quite sure there used to be a pendulum effect from the rear box coming out of chicanes etc. The car does feel better for the stiffer fixing.

However, i'm not happy with the solid fixing of the DPS one, i personally think the bracket is great but the mount to the cross member is somewhat ill-conceived. I intended to obtain a large piece of polybush and come up with something that simply replaced the rubber bush ont he standard mount (it is marginally more complicated than that though)

This is a picture of the mod i made to the mount (by the way the guy selling them was mailed by a couple of us re them not fitting the 968, but never replied!)

To fit it two additional holes had to be drilled in the cross member, some of one of the webs had to be removed, 2x plates made up to extend the mount so that an S2 gearbox mount could be used instead of the 968 one.

Flash,

Are you working on "up-dated" engine mounts? I`am planning to renew my mounts but if you are working on better mounts I will wait untill they are ready...

regards,

Rutger

Thanks guys, but unfortunately none of those are what I'm looking for. I also had a Kokeln solid mount on my street car and didnt find it transmitted to much noise. (and I have Lindsey solid engine mounts)..... granted the car also had a 6 puck spec clutch. Looks like I'll be making a limited run of trans mounts I suspect.

Mike, I could be interested in some if that might help you offset costs? I'm not sure if I'm going to the 6 speed or having a custom tranny made though. Should know by January. If you need commitment before then let me know.

Aaack! I recently replaced mine. I guess the motto here is to never do anything to this car, bacause Flash is probably working on a better version of whatever you're thinking of replacing Oh, well, at least my DMF looks like it will hold up long enough for the spring centered clutch disk to become available

lol - haven't gotten to my own interior yet - been working on finishing off the new car - once i get mine back on the ground, and the other car out of here, i can actually move mine over to the service bay and swing the doors open to play with it

this wouldn't be so bad if i wasn't also trying to keep the bmw inside and clean - i just had it detailed, and we are selling it - of course i chose to do that the day before a huge storm (by california standards of course)

Hi Flash & all,

any news with the "solid" trans mount? I thought of replacing my mount soon, so input in this area is highly useful!

I know this is an old thread, but I have just recently had SFR build me a solid transmission mount. I have a spare unit if anybody is still looking for one.

Unfortunately, the Lindsey unit doesn't work for the 968; so that is what made me go to SFR.
