SoCal Porsche meet
#1

Since I have multi-porsches, I have seen this information on several boards but not on here. I'm trying to decide which car to take. If we can get a bunch of 968's there, I would bring mine for sure.

So Cal “All Porsche” Swap Meet and Car Display Update #4

Last time we told you about all the events happening the second weekend of March in Southern California. The open houses, beginning March 8th with West Coast Haus and continuing the 9th at The Parts Shop, Willhoit’s Auto Restorations and GTwerk are all must do events. Of course we will all be at the LA Literature and Toy Show on Saturday March 10th. This event ends at 2:00 PM and then it’s off to Orange County, just 40 miles south for two brand new celebrations located right next door to each other.

On Saturday afternoon, European Collectible’s (www.europeancollectibles.com.) will be hosting a vintage Porsche party like nothing else we’ve seen before. Nick Clemence, proprietor, is inviting all of the Porsche world to come on by European Collectible’s new location in Orange County for a bit of food, drink and rousing discussion with some Porsche racing legends.

With the help of the 911S Registry, Scooter Patrick, Davey Jordan and Tony Adamowitz will be stopping by to share stories about racing 911’s in the early days of Trans Am. They are working on a multimedia presentation mixing interview, discussion, along with pictures and audience participation. This event is free to all that want to come and it runs from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and is located at 1665 Babcock Street, Costa Mesa, California.

Sunday at 8:00 AM the gates will open to our All Porsche Swap Meet and Car Display. Much like the Dunkel’s events form the past, this venue will feature Porsche’s and their owners in a very unique setting. There is over 3.5 acres for swapping and Porsche parking. Vendors from Stoddard’s to Meguiar’s along with lots of Porsche swappers will be together in a large paved parking lot. Hundreds of Porsche’s from all over will be parked in another huge parking lot. In between, some very special cars will be on display along with world famous, Berry’s Feeding Troff. They are set up to feed us an amazing breakfast and a lunch featuring their delicious Tri Tip and Chicken BBQ.

For those of you wanting to stay down in the Costa Mesa area for the European Collectible’s open house Saturday and the “All Porsche” event Sunday, we have arranged some hotel rooms close by. Both are Holiday Inn Express’. The first is in Newport Beach and their number is 949-722-2999. The second is in Costa Mesa and their number is 949-631-6000. The deadline for the rate is February 9th, so please book early to insure availability. Be sure to ask for the “All Porsche” room rate.

So, plan to spend the whole weekend in Southern California. We’ll look forward to seeing you on Sunday March 11th for the So Cal All Porsche Swap Meet and Car Display. The event, co-sponsored by the 356 Club and 912 Registry, is located at 1645 Babcock Street in Costa Mesa, California. Bring your Porsche and park with your brothers and sisters in the passion. We will be supporting a children’s charity, Technology for Kids Foundation and all of the proceeds will go to them. For more information contact Jeff Trask at NO911NV@aol.com or 949-697-4499 or Pete McNulty at pmcnulty98@aol.com or 949-400-9319. Let us know how you want to be involved!

I have been helping your buddy, Brian Minson with his 912 type 4 conversion. I don't think he is going to be done in time. So I may bring the 912 for his benefit. If he can't make the show, I would rather be in the 968 <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I will see you there one way or the other!

i usually go to these things, and will probably continue to do so for some time, but i rarely find what i am looking for or want to see - this one was no exception - i'm probably quite jaded by now, as i have gone to so many, and see the same cars at all of them

i came - i saw - i went home

i got there about 8:30 - i orbited around for a while trying to find parking on the street, as i didn't bring my car, and there was no arranged parking for cars not being shown - there were no signs pointing you to the entrance anywhere to be found, and the entrance was actually not on the street indicated, but rather completely around the block - i'm actually glad i didn't bring my car though, as i would have been stuck there for way too long, and by 9:30 it was getting quite warm, and i was in black

i generally like to go to these things because it gives me a chance to chat with fellow 968 owners, some racers, and see some historic cars, race cars, and stuff like that - i'm not really interested in seeing somebody's daily driver 86 911 or 74 targa - but, as usual, there was a lot of that there - a good spread if you're into that kind of thing for sure, as there were good examples of every model of rear engined car

i saw howard - always a pleasure - i couldn't find tony - saw his car though

there was a grand total of 2 968s, and only 4 other front engine cars - however, there were lots of 356s, a few 912s, and tons of 911s - probably as many as 400 cars in all - lots of them for sale - pretty much the normal fare though with a couple of rare exceptions that were cool to see

the swap meet portion was the same as usual - a few people with a bunch of knick knacks and stuff, and a couple dozen people with their stuff from their garage they want to get rid of lain out on the ground (very fred sanford) i saw not a single 968 memorabilia item or part - not much on vendors and sponsors either - i'm used to seeing shops with booths, tire manufacturers, wheel guys, etc - really none of those there - is that normal for these things elsewhere in the country too? is this just a socal phenomenon? am i totally out in left field?

definitely seems like a wide open field if somebody was inclined to sell there

still, i'm glad i went, but my enthusiam for these things is waning - i think i need a 968 event fix - sure glad i have the detail day event next week

From your description it sounds like a pale imitation of the Hershey show and swap meet. When I last attended six years ago or so I was overwhelmed. My wife, who has a short attention span for this sort of stuff, was impressed. And that says alot.

it's not like the event sucked or anything like that - i think i'm just to the point, having gone to so many of these things, that i need more stimulation to keep me enthused

geez - i sound like a junkie

Man do I feel like crap...

I log on, looking for this thread, wondering "when was the socal meeting, again?"

And next weekend is the weekend before finals week - no way I'm doing anything but studying.

On a side note, this should have been posted on the rennlist boards as well. I lurk mainly at the 924/931/944/951/968 board, and if you wanted to see more waterpumpers there, that's a good place to get people's attention.
