I was finally able to realize a dream about 5 years running now... I committed to a '92 Cab. Got alot of paperwork to do between Washington, Arizona and Florida, so it might be a couple of weeks before I can get pics up, but...

Actually, I'm thinking of shipping... anyone know a reliable and inexpensive transport? I found one place that'll do it for $575 uncovered. $875 covered. Is it gonna be worth the extra $300??

Several of the local PCA members have used Intercity Lines with good results. 1-(800) 221-3936 intercitylines.com I believe the covered (enclosed) transportation is worth every penny. You never know what might blow on, fall on, or splash on your car! Welcome to the 968 Community and good luck, Bob Blackwell.

$300 is worth it. You'll spend 10 times that getting it serviced and set up the way you want it. Would be ashame to have it arrived with a nice ding from the haul. At best it will be very dirty.

Congrats and have fun!

I 2nd that. I had my car shipped form Seattle to the Bay Area because I had to drive a U-Haul instead when I moved. I had it with a covered trailer. You never know what type of weather and road muck they will come across right now. Not to mention rocks and stuff on the hwy's because of being sanded for snow.

Also a good thing to do is to check with the Better Business Bureau to check on some of the these shipping companies. Just make sure there are no major complaints and also see how long they have been in business.

Congrats

Welcome to the club. Had my car shipped as well, it would've only been a 4 hour drive back but the hassle of getting there wasnt worth it.

How did you find your 68?

I was going to drive down, but then work filled my weekends for the next month or so... plus was gonna avoid the 1700 miles from Seattle to extreme SE Arizona... but I might still do it. I guess I'm still kinda in limbo about it. The original plan was to take a one-way flight with my 5-year old son (who loves Porsches almost more than his dad!) up to WA and have a nice 2 - 3 day father-son trip. I dunno... I might still do it.

I found the car on cars.com. I had been looking for the last few months, watching prices, watching all the forums, finding the right questions to ask, learning what the big pitfalls might be on the 15-ish year cars... A guy on either here or Rennlist lives about 30 minutes from the car, he took a drive out to test it out, tell me what a PPI and a bunch of pictures couldn't. In the end, I picked up a deal, I think. 130K '92 Cab in very nice condition for $9500. It's high mileage, and there is of course some wear and tear (Top is sowing age, etc) that you would expect, but it's a solid specimen with good potential and a firm starting point for me to upgrade some things in the future.

I shall post pictures once I get it down here!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
