If you're in San Marino ( as in the one adjacent to Pasadena I presume.. .?? ) , one of the most serene / quietest environments I have ever seen, and you still can't hear the soumd...there is no hope !, lol. That aside, not sure how expensive a new mechanism is or how difficult the job to replace it may be, but guessing with time the sound it makes diminishes , so a new one might be a bit more crisp thus more audible.. And make sure to ask for the one where the dial goes to 11 ! ( Spinal Tap ref. For those of you old enough to remember the movie, lol )
