seat belt buckle
#1

The passenger seat belt buckle - the black plastic clamshell part surrounding the buckly, snappy part has let loose at the seam. I epoxied it back together but the glue didn't hold.

Has anyone successfully put one of these back together?

If it's ABS or PVC you can use the glue from the hardware store as it actually melts and bonds the plastic. I imagine it might not be either though as usually these incarnations are quite hard and that cowling is soft n'est pas?

Dave - thanks for the follow-up - not ABS or PVC - it is indeed something harder than those. But you're right: there's probably an adhesive more chemically suited than the epoxy I tried.

We have a chain here in Canada called Industrial Plastics who handles all types of plastics and cements for these purposes, you must have and equivalent in the US?

I couldn't find a 1-800 on their web site otherwise you could just call and pick their brains.

DaveN, thanks for your reply! I did find an 800-number on the site you mentioned - all western canada. But I like your idea of consulting a plastics expert. If I can't find someone to call in the SE USA I'll call our friends in Canada and get some advice.

Following-up: Purchased some 3M super-glue and the clamshell is holding fine.

That's the good news.

The bad news:

The mechanism failed inside. Won't go into the details but the short story is I just called Sunset to learn that the little 12" replacement belt and buckle can be had cheap for $203.50.

Anyone have a spare passenger side buckle? Or know if this is a generic part available from a non-Porsche souce? (Hat's off the the "alternate sourcing" thread!!) If no reply here I'll try Parts Heaven or another used source.

Cheers, and thanks.
