I was browsing the site and saw Google snooping -Probably their AI scanning websites and culling data together to become a better "Big Brother"

I am somehow uncomfortable with this - Hmmm....

 

Any thoughts from the gallery?

 

 

I really do everything possible to not use google and I am not on any social media, this is an exception, and I also make serious attempts at not being tracked online. I also only use my phone for text messages and calls. I don't use any apps or internet data on my phone. I found out that google scans every gmail email for keywords for advertising. That really makes me twitch and not in a good way. I have a paid email service, one out of Canada and a spare that I am thinking of using in Switzerland.


This stuff is getting out of hand.

I am of the same opinion, and disturbed with similar concerns.   And although I am far from paranoid, I do have to wonder if the information gathered by google or other search engines is ( or can be ) accessed by various sources which collect that data for reasons other than just trying to bombard you with annoying ads for stuff you may want to buy.. 

I also do not have Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any of those platforms , mostly because I have no interest in 90% of what’s there , but also because of the increased scams or hacking risk.  I get enough scam / phishing attempts just on my email  .. 

Yes, it is out of hand ..

Seriously though, it's getting out of hand. I have several tracker and add blockers I run. I don't need to see the ads. I can't stand the gas pumps now have audio and video. Seriously the car jacking danger has really ramped up at gas stations, and what do they do- have their gas pump loudly try to either sell you crap you don't need or want or tell you things you don't need to hear. Thank god you can shut them off - at least for now, but I resent the crap out of it...

 

I hate how much personal information people can access to try to sell me things. Home warranties, car warranties - I called one to ask to be removed from their mailing list. He took the reference number, and said "So you don't want the coverage?" I said no thank you, as I was being polite at this point, and he then very snarkily said "Good luck with repairs!" What repairs? It's a 1 year old Toyota 4Runner with less than 12k on it. I won't have a repair for at least 2 years or more when I want new tires...I am sure he didn't even bother to take me off the list...

Oh, I don’t know, I find it handy. I like that you can read a thread on DMEs and the next time you do a google search 25 results for DMEs come up. Or read a thread on timing belts then the first 10 results are Pelican, AZ Autohouse, FCP, Stoddards, etc. 

 

I don’t know why I keep getting ED and Pironi’s disease ads on the TV though.  :glare:

People used to be mortified that the KGB and the Stasi used to bug people's homes. Here, people now pay for the privilege.

 

The lady at the book store today couldn't understand why I didn't want to sign up for their book club as it meant a 25% discount. I go to the bookstore like once every year or so, I don't need your loyalty card.  I am not trading my privacy for something as trivial as a coupon. Sorry lady.

 

The one at the department store tried really had to sell me a credit card. She asked like three different ways, and I had to keep saying no. It's really hard to be polite when they are like a dog with a bone and won't let go. What part of NO don't you understand?

I was the same way at Harbor Freight until signing up saved me $25 on some big ticket item. My original EarthLink acct has some pretty serious spam protection so I always use that for those kinds of things. I just have to delete the 5,000 spam emails every year or so.
