Well, there is a thread discussing the forum handoff to new management.  But I thought it might be interesting to show support for the forum among those of us who support it's continuation.  I know this sounds a little sophomoric, but perhaps the handoff probability can be increased just a bit.  (I put this topic in "968 Parts Wanted" because the forum is a wanted 968 part, and there are a whole bunch of categories that I can't start a new topic).

So, I'll start.  The 911 I bought has fantastic handling.   But I never pursued the handling improvements on the 968, except...... I got yellow Koni's installed.  The car was in for something else, and I had felt the suspension was too soft, and decided on new shocks:  "hey yeah, people put in those yellow Konis.  I should do that!  It will fix everything and it will be cool!".  I was so wrong, sure it firmed up the ride, but didn't create a car that has that really stick-to-the-ground driving experience.   So I am going to fix some things on the 968, it will remain a daily driver choice, and though about doing something more with the suspension, searched for Flash's notes here on the forum since he put in a lot of work on a good suspension design:

here:  http://www.968forums.com/topic/14243-how...on-my-car/

and here:   http://www.968forums.com/topic/10778-is-...lling-you/

Along with many other great topics in:  http://www.968forums.com/forum/63-handli...uspension/

This is the kind of stuff I would not like to loose!

So I support continuation of the forum .... for many reasons.....so please join in and write your message of support for the new team who will take over running the forum!!!

I appreciate the forum from the point of view as a non mechanic. What I am able to take away is articles to show my mechanic. As example I have decided to upgrade the sound system. I just learned today that one does not have to take out the rear glass but only the trim. This should save me some money.

What I would like to see come back was the map of the members of the site. I live in Portland OR where there are a few members but not a lot of us. It would be a great way to locate all of us

If not a map How about a Excel Spread Sheet Showing

State; City; Your 968 Name; Year of your 968; with  two optional columns of Email Address & Phone Number

With a spread sheet we could sort by any column to find other members near to where we live.

I am a new owner of a 968, well my wife is.  The car is in great condition, and I am focusing on improvements.  As a newbie over the last few weeks I have been all over these forum threads, daily, almost hourly, and this is a great resource.  I've looked around and not found anything comparable.  In addition I get the feeling that this is more than a website, almost a club, and I would hate to see these dual aspects go away.  If there is a vote or poll going on, I will vote early, and often, for this to continue.       Judd

based on the last information i got, there is not much of one, or at least it has not gelled yet to the point of being able to execute.  time is running out.  it's over at the end of the month, if this doesn't get resolved.  more than anything else, this is really going to require somebody who willing to steer the ship.  it's pretty easy to do, yet so far, nobody has stepped up.

Or, in chemistry-based society, if you're not part of the solution you're part of the precipitate.

There a group looking into this - I have offered to participate - but I haven't heard much in the last week or more.

I agree that a step forward is needed soon .

I have often offered to help on the idea of a map or a spread sheet to keep the member list going. I never heard back from anyone on my attempts to volunteer. I wonder how many others out there are in the same situation. I have the time as I am retired but I do not have the skills of dealing with web programing.

I just can't believe how much this is taking. Somebody step up and write a check...Flash bought this site on a single phone call, and a second call to Pete and I made it a partnership.

Take out a pen and send a check to Flash, worry about fractions later. I don't want this site to go away any more than most of you, but seeing how this is going, there is no way I'm sticking my neck out on the other 70%.

If you want it, buy it...everything else is just jibber jabber.

lol - william - i know it's your personal pet issue, and you bring it up just about every other post, but that particular item would require somebody with real internet skills.  as cool as it was when we had it, it was really not used.  i don't think that would change much either.  therefore it became a non-priority.  we had about half of the database loaded in, but the amount of time needed to enter the rest was so daunting that we abandoned the project.  it's not like the database can transfer.  each and every member has to be entered manually.  i'm not even sure i have the password for it any more.  it would likely have to be started over.  by now, it would likely also cost money just to have the service.  this is likely why other sites don't have the service.

i definitely do not want to hinder the site transfer process by entering into the equation a hugely laborious task like this, which would only serve to further complicate things.

for all intents and purposes, the member map is dead.  please leave it alone.  this can, or course, be revisited after somebody else takes over, assuming they want to deal with it.  until then though, it is pointless to even talk about it.

Bob. Before the site close? first off all thank you very much for the time and endless energy you have put in. I still remember that the other site jammed where we in constant conversation with gildersleeve. After the jam. I had difficulties of entering this site because, sandovall i remember ran out of time to serve and maintain it well.

You have done an excellent job. Thanks in advance. And if you come to the mainland in europe. Remember that you are welcome in holland so we can drink beer and have a bbq. That invitation stands as a personal thank you.

I was always a pleasure to read and write in the topics since 2007....

It feels like a divorce.... thinking that this domain will be free again in the nearby future.

But I liked the time I stayed on this forum. It is the only forum that I visited so long.

Bob thanks!

Ritchie.

As I've said many times, I'm willing and stand ready to write a check for a significant potion of that "ship" cost as long as someone commits to steering it ( but no, I'm not willing to buy 100%  of Bob's share....it's honestly not worth anyway near that much,  singularly to me vs. the benefit I derive from the info here,,). though I find it odd that we couldn't gather ten of us, out of all the members here , to  put up $ 750 each and just hand the contribution over to a person that can steer the forum forward..   Jay, do I detect an offer from you to run the show if a collective of us can buy Bob's share ?

Just a Newbie here, but glad to participate in this idea.

I've saved more than $750 in the last 2 weeks!

Dan,

I'm closer to the end of the runway than many of you probably realize. I'd like some new blood, and I'll part with my shares, now or in the future, as a convenience.

Some of the folks in conversation now just need to pull the ripcord and divvy the pieces later. That's the best way to assure continuous operation.

Step up, write a check, and I won't complain about diluted shares later.

Speaking as a forum member from across the pond, I found this forum to be a goldmine of info when I first purchased my car some 8 years ago. Great shame if it disappears, but if it does fold, I can vouch for the UK forum at 968uk.co.uk. Both forums have helped me a great deal in keeping my car on the road, and she's recently clicked over 200,000 miles too!

I am not in a position to be able to help financially. But I recall someone asking for particulars. As the price, who are the current owners, who is interested in either forming a group or who has shown interest in becoming owners. At this moment if I were to be interested in joining a group, I would have no idea who to contact. We all know that Flash is a current owner but who else?

it's just jay and myself at the moment.  i have pretty much put the handling of this in jay's hands, as he would be the one deciding whether or not he would remain involved.

Thanks for the reply Flash but are there any other groups of individuals who are thinking of participating in saving the site? If you could publish their names then others might contact them to see if we could save the site, as we all appreciate all you did all these years.

There is already a group email for those individuals, albeit a very limited number of us in there, and AZ968 ( Bob F . ) has the list so if you wish to be added to it please PM him .

there has been plenty of posting on the "time to pass the baton" thread by those who have been talking in the background about this.  it would not be appropriate to publicly have that conversation, nor to publicly disclose the names of those interested.  i think we can all rest assured that they will reach out to you or anybody else if they feel it appropriate.
