Sacramento 968 roundup
#1

I have heard that there are 5 or 6 968 in Sacramento area, I think that we should get together on the 9th or 10th. Do these dates work for anyone interested? We should meet early, go for a nice drive in the hills somewhere and stop for lunch to have some car talk. I would like it if someone else could step up and coordinate, nothing to big just a casual meet and greet with a drive. Ideas for location and destination would be great. Reply to post for general thoughts\ideas or PM if you would like to contact me by phone. I have already PM with "Silver BLT" and he suggested these dates so we have 2 of us to start with.

Josho,

Thanks for posting info for the July 9-10 Sacto. area Round up. Anyone in or out of the area is welcome to come along. Routes are being considered and time / locations for meeting has not been set, any suggestions (within reason) are welcome. I am thinking about meeting at 8:30 and leaving the meeting place at 9:00, driving for perhaps 1 1/2 hours then a stop to stretch our legs and another 1 1/2 and stop for lunch. Either enjoy lunch and talk about the drive or head home so the rest of the afternoon will be yours to play with.

You can PM either Me or Josho for details or suggestions.

Flash dear buddy, (no sarcasim intended) I don't think we will be heading that far south this time, however, I would love for you to take a look at my car and give me your educated opinion sometime. I hope to make it down to your area in late september or there abouts for a local drive. (your local) I see a lot of members live sorta near you (or your garage)

So far the feedback I have gotten from the people who want to go on a Sacto. "meet and greet" drive is that it should be a short 1/2 dayer for starters. If it works out well we may call for a Mid California "meet and greet". Normally I would offer you the guest room to spend the night, but my mother in-law is up. She lives near (sorta) you. I stayed with her when I bought my car. Thanks for thinkin' of us. Of course you are welcome to join us, but its not going to be a full day drive in the mountains. You are welcome in my house anytime!

"where were you considering the run going?" from Flash.

Perhaps from the lower Sierra foothills to just short of the Tahoe Basin. It all depends on what people want to do. We are very flexable.

I'd be up for this, unfortunately I suffered the dreaded heater control valve failure while down in the 100F+ heat at Buttonwillow last Fri. Ended up blowing my head gasket...

Any chance you want to open this up to the 944 guys? I know there are a bunch of them in Sac.

As far as I'm concerned 944's are a part of the family. Sorry to hear about the head gasket.

Chris, that blows man. Sorry to hear that happened to you. I ordered the metal one yesterday after reading the posts and long threads on the Forum.

944s are welcome of course, much better than a Yugo , our cars are just one evolutionary step from 944s, and I've always liked the cars.

We picked up another 968 for the weekend drive,Thats 5! My neighbor and his Red one, very pristine car are the latest to sign on. That makes 5 968! As far as Saturday or Sunday everyone still says they can make both, but I'm leaning towards Saturday. But Sunday would be OK for me too. So there ya go a firm maybe. Josho, how say thee? Pick one.....

Route idea: let me know if this works for everyone.

Start Hwy 50 @ El Dorado Hills / Latrobe exit, starbucks coffee,Longs drugs, and Ralphs market available for whatever someone wants.

Out Latrobe to Hwy 16 to Plymouth,(Break time) Hwy 16 to Nashville,E on Sand Ridge rd through Somerset through Newtown past Sly Park Lake to Hwy 50 in Pollock Pines. (Break time)

Hwy 50 west to Camino, Carson exit, West on Carson to South on Snows, Snows turns into Newtown rd at Avinsino Corner, West on Pleasant Valley to Diamond Springs. (lunch at the Diamond Springs Hotel) its old and the floors are uneven, but they are family style cookin' and good food. After lunch Hwy 49 to Hwy 50 and home from there.

Or. the way I understand directions.

That all sounds great. Sunday would work best for me but Whichever would have the best turn out is what's important. I would recommend using 2 way radios to keep in contact and warn others of road hazards. Always remember to torque your lugs the night before as well as check all fluids and have an extra quart of oil in the car.

If this goes well I think we should do it monthly. A NorCal SoCal meet would be great in the future. I also posted a link to this thread on Rennlist just in case we missed anybody.

Sunday it is, I will call those who wanted to be notified by phone.

Thanks,

Ron and Josh -

Thanks for putting the tour together. It was excellent! Twists and turns through the Sierra Foothills with very little traffic made for a great drive! Not too short and not too long...just right. I'm looking forward to another drive and bringing Julia next time!

For those who didn't make it, it was a blast, and I would highly recommend putting one together wherever you live. The driving, friendships developed, admiration of the cars, photo opportunites, and the enjoyment of a beautiful day can't be beat - a successful combination anywhere.

Present on the tour were Josh and Jessica (JOSHO), Ron (SilverBLT), Sam and Lisa (EEZATOY), Bob and Cathy (friend and neighbor of Ron), and me (INSITE94).

Everyone's cars were shiny and we all kept the shiny side up despite some tire squealing, chirping, and high-speed switchbacks. While the "spirited driving was a kick, there was plenty of straight and smooth road to ease the tension from any trace of wooziness on part of the passengers.

Check out the photos...maybe others will post too. Thanks again, Gents - really a great day!
