Rotrex temps
#1

I worry every time I touch the Rotrex since I was the only one to have an issue upon install at Flash's place; really glad we did it at the R&D shop, awesome support!

I didn't dissassemble any of the SC components this winter but I did replace the oil cooler with a new one D1R send me due to a stress leak on one of the fittings. I started my car after a few cranks and all seems to be fine. I can see oil running down the inside wall of the oil cooler and I removed the oil ooutlet hose form the Rotex unit and it pumped oil like mad into an awaiting rag. It still concerns me that that head unit gets warm to quickly and the oil resevoir remains cold. I realize the warm oil is going into the cooler first so it is probably returning quite cool especialy on our spring days where it is 55-60 degrees "American" out still. The head unit temps also seem to rise quite quickly when the engine is held at a sustained RPM of 3-4K. What are the nominal operating temps of the unit under load?

Thoughs oh great one?

Really have no clue on what the temp should read .

But it is compressing air , and that wil generate a lot of heat .

Just to give you an idea , the temp from the cold air before it enters the combustion chamber of a jet engine is around 700c

That is just air from the compressor

I run mine flatout on the track with a smaller pulley than Flash's kit and never had any problems. Never checked the temperature of the head unit, but the reservoir certainly gets quite warm on the track (sustained revs of 4500-6500rpm for up to 20 minutes). Ambients are around 25-30C normally. As long as oil is flowing you should be OK.

agreed - as long as the oil is flowing, and the oil temp in the reservoir is below 175, you are fine. head temps of well over 200 degrees are not unheard of. that does not mean the intake charge is anywhere near that temp though, so don't freak out there.

Great. I was using a temp gun and it was getting to 165 while holding it at 3Kish for a bit. I am so paranoid after the first one getting hot to the touch due to no lubrication. I can't remember what your temp gun read though when we experienced this.
