Remove dash right side narrow panel
#1

Hey folks,

Did quite a bit of searching, and some scanning of the PET and workshop manual. Also didn't see any clear hints when reading lots of related posts.

Anybody got the details on removing this panel? I have the 2 right hand screws out, next to the passenger's vent, behind that little pop out panel. Also removed the center climate panel (pulled the knobs off, pried off the panel, delicate but I got it),and so removed those screws.

But how does this long panel pop out? Seem like perhaps the temp sensor is somehow keeping it in, maybe. Don't want to break the panel. Is the cigar light also holding it in? Are there other things to remove or lossen before I can kinda pry it out. Sorry, searched quite a bit, couldn't find the details.

(Editorial: I am just about done letting anyone but me drive the cars I love --- yeah, once again... For some reason this person ("want" based not "need" based) pushed the emergency flasher switch and it disappeared inside the dash and now I can't turn it off except removing the relay).

Thanks!

Wow, it sure helps to write! As I wrote this, suddenly Clark's garage came to mind. Very odd, it must help to write.

So yeah, he has a procedure: http://www.clarks-garage.com/, under "BODY-24, Late Model 944 (1985.5 and Newer) Dash Replacement". Seems to have the correct steps to follow. I'll report back.

Thanks for posting. That way we who do not know this, will know where to look when and if we need it!

Think of it as Needs Based Therapy.

Yes, I forgot, "she needs, I provide"... didn't Bing Crosby have a tune like that? On the other hand, I think a little Black Sabbath might be appropriate at the moment. Ok, fine, maybe Merl Haggard: "She left me .... .... for an F-150 driver". "Oh lord, won't you buy me...." (which break more than Porsches anyway).

Thanks for the support guys, followed the instructions on Clark's and got the panel out. There was a crack in the portion that houses the emergency flasher, on the top area, hairline crack. Won't hold the switch when clicked in. Got it set now with some JB Weld -- no problem, was a clean crack, same color, will be visible only upon really really close inspection. Hope it holds, and with luck I can get it all back together.
