Religulous

Dan, please let us know: in order to have such an experience, did you first give yourself totally to a religion, accept their teachings, give everything to the church (leaders), and commit to spreading the religion wherever you go?

Or perhaps you had an incredibly meaningful and enlightening experience (without somebody else using that experience to assign it to their god?).

Watching news clips about the crowds gathered outside the supreme court yesterday as arguments on the gay marriage issue were being heard, not surprisingly "God" was again the most prominently featured opinion maker on the demonstrators' signs. I think the most amusing sign of all is still : " God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve " . Wow and they made it rhyme, that's just too clever , lol,lol,lol.. But, yeah dammit, all ye of little faith must come to terms with fact : God MADE Adam and then MADE Eve out of one of Adam's ribs ! This was all before the talking snake started all that trouble and then the ails of the world soon followed, which no doubt were in large part brought on by Steve .. the florist in the garden of Eden. :-).

Rap.  Which god are you referring to?   And please don't say "the one true god".   There are many of those "one true gods" still in existence today, among the many "true gods" that humans have invented are Allah (Islam) -- is that the one you are referring to?

Perhaps the Jewish god of the old testament?  -- Is that the one you are referring to?

The Hindus have many gods -- "god bless them", is it one of their gods you are referring to?

Do you mean the AA god?

Do mean a native or natural god that many native people around the world believe in?

Do you mean the "Christian god"?   They are weird -- they have many gods, each sect seems to have its own kind of gods but they pretend their is only one.  Catholics seem to believe in 3 of them -- oh wait, I believe Mary is also a god -- make that four.

So which god are you writing about?

Here you go.  Please answer about your god, a little quiz to test your faith:
  • Is god omniscient?  - answer yes or else you don't believe in god
  • is god omnipotent? - answer yes or else you don't believe in god
  • is god omnibenevolent? - answer yes or else you don't believe in god

I am sure as a believer you always seek the truth.  So please consider this:

  1. If an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent god exists, then evil does not.
  2. There is evil in the world.
  3. Therefore, an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent God does not exist.

God is what you make it out to be. All the names you mention are of the same God.

Using " omni- " as the baseline for any of the characterizations mentioned above is fundamentally flawed because it implies God is basically a human being, or at least of human form.. So we're back to the notion that there is this dude who somehow exists in a different dimension of our universe while observing everything that goes on here with us less potent ( notice I did not use IMpotent ) humans.

Everyone sees what they want to see and religion is essentially practicing " God is in the gaps " which for centuries has conveniently explained to those of faith what science at the time could not yet do. As science has, and keeps debunking all the myths surrounding religion and those gaps close, the new convenient feel-good answer is that God is what you make him/her/IT to be and it's an all seeing all powerful force out there that no one can or could ever satisfactorily explain, regardless of scientific facts.

Hey, if that's what drives one to do good in life , there's absolutely nothing wrong with keeping that faith, no matter how misguided it may be, lol.

Hey, are you calling God a cannibal ?! Lol. God is a vegan , he loves all creatures he created so he would never eat anything that stems from animals . Oh wait , he created plants also so maybe he just does not eat at all. But no need to eat I suppose.. it's God, and he is immortal so it's not as if he'd starve to death..

Jesus drank wine and ate bread. Probably ate olives and dates too. The real question is, what does the Holy Ghost eat? Jake?

Jesus probably smoked a bunch of pot, or opium , or whatever else might have been the mind-altering drug of choice in that era . And supposedly that was not only widely practiced but a very acceptable social norm . So I think it's a bit ironic for so many Christians to label pot as evil .

I was watching a PBS program on Egypt and they were talking about how a country which used to embrace a relatively secular culture , not dissimilar to Turkey in that respect, has gradually transformed into one with increasing tensions between the religions that make up the population and that the majority of Muslims are becoming more intolerant of anyone else, after living in some semblance of harmony for so long.. But that led me to think of another matter altogether - for thousands of years before Christianity , an arguably intelligent culture ( the ancient Egyptians ) believed that the sun is carried around the earth by RA in his chariot. So now if we poke fun at, and ridicule that belief, no sane person would argue with it, but if we challenge the similar absurdity of the belief in tne Christian " God " , or heavens forbid ( pun intended ) in Allah, one is subjected to a lot of criticism , accusations , discrimination , and in the latter case there is always a risk of capture and decapitation by ISIS .. :-). So for the record : I'm not questioning Allah or his prophet M . Hell, if I wanted to be decapitated I would have bought and driven a 968 cab, not a coupe . :-) :-)

Most Christians don't deny those that don't believe in their God or Christianity the right to live. Believe convert or die is not one of their mantra's.

Interesting to see a landslide victory for gay marriage rights in Ireland, a country with ( ostensibly ) 95% of its population being categorized as deeply religious.

Very strange, especially when you consider that IS forces are deeply religious too, and they won't have any of that, lol.
