Hi there, i'm from the UK and own a mo30 clubsport that i'm going to track eventually, probably next summer at this rate. would any of you guys be so kind and recommend suspension set ups for track work and very little road driving, i have noticed a lot of 968 racers on this forum and your advice would be very welcome. ps i was thinking of going with the paragon complete solid bush kit and bilstein escort cup coilovers, complete with mo30 sway bars, im runnins 18 carerra rims, 993tt big reds at the front mo30 rears. you have so much choice over there its sick. shame about the cost to ship to the uk. regards pazzer.

I'm sure you have already been to UK 968 Suspension Forum but if you have not you should check it out. A lot of the guys over there run the KW Variant 3 for the 968 with great success, that is the way I intend to go.

Cheers for your reply mark, as good as the kw's may be i think they look cheap with their plastic parts, or at least plastic coated spring plate adjusters and personally i dont want to running the same set up as everybody else, just seen some very nice OHLINS kit at linsey racing, anybody running it. regards pazzer.

Ohlins are very nice, I would also think strongly about the Ledas and the Bilsteins you mentioned earlier. I mentioned the KWs because not only have I been looking at those for another vehicle I owned but also you would have lots of support on your side of the pond.

EDIT:

I see Gene has timed it well on the Ledas.

I have the Bilsteins on my race car and formerly on my street car. They work very well. The only downside is that they are not adjustable. However, they work so well that has not been really been an issue. I thought they were acceptable on the street but comfort was not a priority.

Here's a list of over a dozen manufacturers of 944/968 shock and strut manufacturers:

My race car is running very well on LEDAs. I'm sure they would work just fine in a street/track setup with the proper spring rates. I'm also sure you could find plenty of support locally since they're made in the UK.

Many thanks to all who have replied to my post, heard bad reports on ledas over here on 968uk, many have changed to other brands, the Ohlins look awsome, but i think they are a bit pricey to be sat on a car that will be rarely used, looking at those bilstein escort cups, well if their good enough for Erics racer then thats good enough for me. What spring rates would be a good starting point, not to bothered about comfort on the road, i like the feel of a solid car, ideas are most welcome. many thanks Pazzer.

I'm not sure what model LEDAs the 968uk guys are using, but those of us in the US running LEDA race shocks have not had these problems. I've been using mine hard for three seasons without any of the problems mentioned. I've got 13 class victories and 12 other podiums on my LEDAs. The two fastest 968's in NASA's GTS series are running LEDAs. The fastest 968 in PCA racing with over 20 class victories is also running LEDAs, and has done so without problems for five seasons. This guy is the favorite to win his class everywhere he shows up. Where I race most of the fast 968's, and many of the fast 944S2's I see run LEDAs.

Suspension & shocks borders on discussing politics and religion. It comes down to what works for you. The Ledas have proven to be a good choice for people. The best handling 944 I ever drove had Motons. I really have no complaints about my Bilsteins. Since you mention the ebay Penskes - did you notice the shocks on the 944 turbo he is selling? EBay 951 race car That is probably the fastest/most developed 951 around - it uses the good old Bilsteins.

I ran 450# front, 600# rear (no torsion bars) on my street/track 968.

Mine are the Bilstein Escort Cup. Although they weren't called that a few years ago - they were 'turbo cup'. But it the same thing/valving (600/180 front & 565/218 rear). They used to come in green, then yellow and now that shiny silver.

Thanks Eric, I think i will go with the escort cups, with the same valving as yours but maybe a little less on the spring rates, how do you rate deleting the torsion bars, and is there any strengthening required, a lot of you guys delete these bars but over here its a big no go. regards chris, AKA Pazzer, if you have visited 968uk

I don't see a reason to keep the torsion bars unless you need them for the racing class rules (i.e. must retain original spring type). I haven't had any tb's for about 6 years w/o issue. I ran a majority of that time with the original rubber spring plate bushings and no other mods. I've since switched to the elephant racing poly bronze bushings - which are nice. YMMV, but most of the people that say not to do it haven't done it themselves but heard about a friend of a cousin whose uncle knew somebody that had a problem with it.
