Reattach side skirt mounting tab
#1

Folks, one of the mounting tabs for the longer side skirt is missing from under the car (see pic). It appears that they are welded to the bottom floor of the car. I was wondering how to replace it, or create something that will do the job. I don't really want to bring the car to a welder, besides I am not sure they can safely weld without removing the carpeting, or maybe it is welded onto the empty rocker panel. I don't have the one that fell off. Looking for some home oriented ideas I can do, without a lot of complexity. Among the ideas I came up with:

1. do nothing, the side skirt panel will be fine without this extra mounting point since it is the middle one (1 out of 5).

2. fabricate/bend a piece of metal and attach with self tapping sheet metal screw or 2.

3. fabricate a piece of metal that mounts on the adjacent tabs and bridges across the area where there is this missing one.

All ideas/suggestions/comments welcome. Thanks.

If it were me, I would use #2 with self tapping screws. Then later on have it welded.

Thanks Kevin, yeah makes sense, I have some sheet galvanized that should work fine.

But....wait....I know...hey....better idea.......yeah......the answer came to me, there is a 4th option: "Hey honey, you know with all the money I am saving from all this DIY work, we can now afford a welder. And I know you want to contribute to the projects, so from now on we'll have to park your car outside of the garage, and I also need an upgraded tool box, a refrig for the garage, and some of the black/white squares for the floor, let me show you flash's garage again, I recall you liked it, we can overhaul our garage also, and besides that way I won't be in the house so much to bug you. But you can still bring me sandwiches out there, no problem. And then we need a matching 968 cab for you!"

But let's start with the welder.
