Sunroof metal sound over bumps
#1

Its only slightly annoying, but every once and a while I hear a almost metal sound like something is loose above my head. I've had a look, although obvious hard to pin point the sound. Its not a creaking sound, but sounds like something is loose. It doesn't happen all of the time, mainly over some bumps. I assume maybe its some metal part, just touching another in certain situations. Roof operates without a problem. Any ideas?

I'm currently chasing a rattle on the Coupe and upon disassembly of the hatch trim pieces, I found lots of things loose. I know it's not my sunroof since it has all new seals and the retracting arms pull it down nice and snug. Also, there's no movement if I push up on it from inside the car, so it's gotta be from the rear hatch. Sounds coming from back there can be deceiving...I swore it was the passenger side that was noisy when hitting bumps, but it turned out that the driver's side of the wing was loose as well as the trim piece under the wing/across the rear of the glass.

Thanks Darryl for the mentioning the hatch, it is getting my motivation up a notch. I have the same problem, multiple rattles in the rear of the hatch, even a loose dangling electrical connector that I can see from the outside. It is really annoying, but I've been putting it off, probably time to get going on some repairs.

One thing that create that sort of noise in my car is the rear hatch. Some time if I don't slam it hard enough ( I have it adjusted for a firm fit) only one dog will catch and make strange noises as you drive. something like Nureek, Squilookle, Hununga. (There's a brain teaser for the non-Brit)

I have the same issue, the passenger side "dog" just doesn't seem to lock good and tight. I've adjusted it a hundred times and used loctite. More of a "cluckity cluck cluck" sound. Its my bane...

I actually gave up on the machinists fit last week and backed off one of the dogs so I don't have to slam the lid so hard. I'l save those tolerances for my top end this winter <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
