The CRD-23 requires a CAN-BUS signal for ignition and illumination controll. The 951 does not have a CAN-BUS unit. The CDR-23 will not work properley.

The CRD-23 does not have a user input unlock code, it has a protect mode. If the unit is installed in an application that does not match the VIN # of the previous install, a Porsche dealer of Harman Becker service will have to recode it through the MOST-BUS system .... The CDR-23 and the MOST thing started in 2003.

I do have a CDR22 on the shelf - in case your 951-buddy might be interested

I can recommend the Becker Indianapolis (Pro). It looks stock, and has excellent features. But if he's looking for Porsche branding then I guess this won't work.

The Indianapolis Pro is a very nice unit. Problem is it will cost you about $1000 and you have to get it from Europe.

The Becker Grand Prix is also nice, but costs less. Probably about $600 from Europe.

I recommend the CDR220- call Harman Becker in NJ (do a web search) and get a refurbed one complete with the faceplate mod. Should be around $400 shipped. Looks OEM and has better sound than the original head unit. Then, order a P.I.E. iPod adapter to go with it. Feeds the iPod through the AUX input of the CDR220 and also has power and ground wires to charge the iPod. Don't buy the iPod adapter from Becker. Trust me.

Thanks for the advise, I was actually planning that as a winter project. I'll scan the web to see what else is compatible with Becker, or will the unit you mentioned work on a regular Becker too?

Johann-

The newer Beckers use a new Becker iPod remote adapter kit. The adapter that you get, from Becker, for the CDR220 is just a cable with RCA jacks on the end. You then have to adapt your iPod mini-jack to the RCA cables. No charging.

If you go to Becker's website, you'll see the newest Becker iPod remote kit. I believe this allows charging but I also believe it is not compatible with older Beckers (CDR210, CDR220, etc.).

All depends on what Becker model you have....

Check out enfigcarstereo.com- they sell all kinds of adapter from Scosch, P.I.E., etc.

It's mentioned several times in one of my topics about (my) Beckers (for sale) at the Dutch PorscheForum

Becker I-pod adapter is for:

Cascade 7944 (version 3.5 and up)

Indianapolis 7920, 7922, 7923, 7925, (version 2.0 and up)

If you ask me: Solisto is a much better choice - www.jncs.nl -

CDR 22 - as I suggested

Or same look - but also having navigation (besides radio and CD) would be a Becker from the 4700 or 7800 series.

... or a mexico pro ..

Thanks all, I was confused by all the responses as to which would be the best. I knew the 968ers would know which was best. Too bad he can't log on to a 951forum.

I have the Becker indianapolis pro, and I love it. Upside...it looks cool and has decent navigation. Downside...it cost 1000 euro and that's only for the head unit.
