Part number for metal S5 heater value
#1

I understand that we can replace our 968 plastic heater value with one from a S5, which i think is metal and a direct replacement? Is this true?

You can use the one from an 87 Audi 5000. http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/E...46444_0_0_

The old all steel control valve is NLA from the typical neighborhood sources (Autozone, O'Reilly, etc), it has been replaced with a plastic unit much like the stock unit that we are all trying to avoid.

But, the good steel one (#74671) is still available from Four Seasons on the Summit Racing website:

It seems that all the manufacturers are going to plastic bodies, so this may be the last place that still has the more durable steel bodied valves, at least for now.

My original plastic heater valve just blew this past April (coolant everywhere) when I pulled the car out of winter storage.

The replacement I installed was a plastic/metal combo, like this: https://www.carpartsdiscount.com/heater-...593=307206

It's functioned perfectly and will definitely last longer than the glued-plastic part.

lol - if you had the Design 1 Racing exhaust heat shield in there, the OEM valve would not likely fail, and then would not require adaptation to make it fit

by the way, has anybody ever checked to see if the lever actuation distance was the same?
