Anybody,

The front engine cars are notorious for eating #2 an#3 rod bearings due to centrifical force on the oil starving the oil pick up.

Usually replacing the bearings before wear gets extreme prevents the ultimate failure. When the coatings wear off the bearings they like to connect themselves to the crank (turn 10 Watkins Glen). Usually the rod snaps and bandsaws the crankcase.

Several remedies help. Replace rod bearings at specified interval. Skirting oil pick up tube, flap in oil pan. Crank scraper/windage tray-they help with oil scavanging and lower oil temp.

What's amazing is how much abuse these engines will take until they implode. But they do----

Oil temp kills power and engine life

Pete,

Yikes! You should have put in a warning, something along the lines of, "For mature audiences only. Do not read if you are squeamish or have a heart condition..." How often have you seen this happen (although even once would be bad enough)?

Also, anybody who needs to replace their bearings frequently (read, racers) should consider a Brey-Krause removable crossmember. I would imagine it makes the job MUCH easier.

Given that you do your DE events at tracks that allow for much higher speeds than the ones I drive on, I see that improved braking would help you. I just rotated my tirese side-to-side, and see that my front pads are getting pretty thin. I think I'll try out the Porterfields you guys have been so happy with.

Hey GaryLimey - that was you who had the smoking 2:11 in the 968! I thought that was mucho cool - I will set the target for my car when I get the first run out. Making it to the Fun One at the Glen may be a good goal for getting the build done on my 968. Vegging out for Xmas makes me want to hit the track with some new toys.

Here's some Holiday Cheer - my last race in car at Watkins Glen in the GT1 car this last fall.

(This car had some power - who can guess the lap time?)

Time for some more Glug! (burp, fsssst)

PS - might lay down for the combo windage tray/crank scraper - available from your favorite holiday elves at RSBarn!

Nice video!! It looked like a 2:00 at the end, WOW!

My friend who has been coaching me who wants me to get a fast truck, he has a best of 1:59, he has 350hp. He wants me to test driving one at a G52 event next season. He races them with EMRA.

However I'm not giving up my 968 and I doubt my dear wife will let me have 2 track cars without getting divorced

Thanks Ben, my 1st event at WGI will probably be with Trackmasters the 1st weekend of May, it's a 3day event with day 1 for "Open Trackers" only, all day open track-nice!!! I will be trying for my 2:10 that day. Any chance you might be there?

Are you going to do any pca club racing? I will be in either "firehawk" or "prepared f" class, provided I'm ok after my 1st ever race as a "rookie at VIR in March.

Thanks guys - best time in that car was a 2:02 - haven't hit a sub 2:00 at WGI.

I've raced against several of the trucks with EMRA about 4 years ago - they were quick and can be setup to handle well. I haven't done a trackmaster event before. All my events are SCCA races, track open test days which are the most time for the dollar and some PCA DE events. I did the Pocono DE in April to test muy1998 Boxster and decided to hunt down a 968 for ITR after that test.

What has been the reults driving a 968 against a first gen Boxster? Seat of my pants says the Boxster would lose on high speed.

My friend who is an instructor in his Boxster S is faster top end by a couple of mph but nearly 4.5 seconds slower round the Glen and VIR. The top end speed for my car is governed by how much speed I can carry through the previous turn as the car is not that fast on a straight compared to say a 944 Turbo (12mph faster on the back straight at VIR). So we are working now on better handling and more seat time .

Hey Gary - that's great to hear. The ITR Boxster is classed as the 97-99 non-S model. If I had built the '98 Boxster in the garage no doubt I'd be really, really pissed at myself. The 968 would crush that considering it's as fast or faster than the Boxster S.

Now I just need to man up for the JRZ setup - serious cashola. Santa didn't drop that down the chimney :-(

What is very cool is there are several guys racing 968 cars

Looks like:

Gary Limey

Eric

Crespo

Who else is racing that's on this board?

Cheers,

I know another 968 racer who lives in Rockland county, I met him at a Chin event at NJMP.

I hope that the expenses stop with the suspension, I was going to do a BT race school but the money went to the suspension instead.

If any other $ is needed my wife will kill me , not to mention that I haven't got anymore after the JRZ's

I hope we are at some of the same events, maybe NJMP this year or the Glen.

We will have to get together one day Ben, we don't live too far apart.

I've seen a guy by the name of Jim Child post quite a bit on the racing part of the forum. Sounds like a real nice guy - he's always given very well-thought-out and detailed responses to my sometimes dumb questions.

Gary, you may be thinking of Jason Judd - drives a turbocharged 968, but I believe he's actually in Westchester County.

I don't race, doubt that I ever will, but I think I've been bitten by the DE bug.

His name is Richard G. .

That DE bug took a huge bite out of my --- and my wallet , but not one regret

Pete, hoping you're still watching - there's a box in front of your Barn door. Is it safe overnight?
