With my A/C unit turned on (I just installed a brand new A/C compressor with new belts for a/c and power steering) my car is now running hot. We checked that there is enough coolant in the car, no leaks, etc. But the car runs hot. Last week I went for a drive, when the outside temp was 89 degrees I turned on the A/C. it worked great, never was the interior this cool before, perhaps it needed a charge of A/C coolant before. I parked the car for about one hour and then started to drive home. First the rectangular red light in the middle of the dash came on, then I noticed the temp gauge was all the way to the top and found out there is a led light at the top of the temp gauge, which comes on when the temp is too high. I shut off the A/C to allow the engine to cool which it did slightly and continued to drive home. When I got home I popped the hood. No leaks no A/C coolant sprayed under the hood, all the belts are intact and turning with the engine. The fan blades in the front of the A/C unit were spinning as the engine was running.


 

Any ideas of why the engine is running hot?

Did the folks who replaced the AC unit have to break any of your water lines loose? If so, you may have an air pocket in the engine that needs to be bled out.

Try the coolest bleeder valve/bolt on top of the engine and see if there's an air bubble in the coolent system. Also, are both cooling fans running? Maybe they weren't reconnected!
