Poll: 968s & option code 718
#21
Who knows what happened and why but that's a possibilty. It is interesting to note that PCNA still registered 6 968 cab sales in 1996 but no 968 coupe sales. What is also interesting is that there were some 95 968s made without the 718 option so all 95s are NOT 718 cars. I'm guessing that NA coupes SS820259-SS820319 are all true 1995 MY cars. Richard's is and so is the aventurine coupe on eBay right now (SS820273).
In support of this, I have just acquired an 95 Aventurine Coupe (SS820306) that does not have the 718 option. I have attached the option code sticker.

Can you tell me where and how I might 'register' my car?

Thanks Bracer for the info on your car. I've recorded the info but you'll want to join PCA (Porsche Club of America) and then join the 968 register. Here's the link to our web site:

Hopefully we'll see you and your new 968 at one of the 968 events this year.
All the early 94 cars, produced from March 1993 through June 1993 (these are the 94s with the 944 style seats, engine compartment trim, cup1 17"wheels, ect)

Does anyone have a 968 that doesn't fall into line with the above???
Just thought I'd add in my info...

I have an early 94 with the 718 code designation..

has 944 style seats, front and rear engine compartment trim, but came with 16" wheels, not 17" as mentioned

interestingly, the window sticker lists the wheels as "5 spoke turbo design wheels" under standard equiptment.

out of curiosity, what is the lowest vin 94 718 car you have listed?

that wheel listing is correct - both the 16 and early 17 were C2 Turbo wheels - the suffix of 16 or 17 is the only difference in listing

Just to add, my vin ends with RS820498

It was purchased around October 94 and doesn't have the "718" code. It came with all the 993 bits, [17" wheels, seats etc].

Your car shouldn't have a 718 code. Recall I said:

"All the early 94 cars, produced from March 1993 through June 1993 (these are the 94s with the 944 style seats, engine compartment trim, cup1 17"wheels, ect) were all originally 93s and reVINed as 94s using option code 718.

All 94s produced between August 1993 and February 1994 (these have the 993 seats, no engine compartment trim, Cup2 17"s) were truely MY 1994s and don't have option code 718
."

Your car was built in October 1993 (as you told me) and has all the changes and no 718 code so my theory still holds correct. Unless I'm missing something??

while certainly the norm, not all late 94s with 17s had the 993 Cup wheels - i have now seen 3 cars that had the C2 Turbo wheels from the factory

I agree, even the infamous raspberry movie-star cab has a mix of the older C2 Turbo wheels (Cup1s) but you can clearly see it also has the 993 style seats. That said, your shop buddy could have pulled the 944 style seat covers off and replaced them with the new style. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> He says he did something. I also remember at my local dealer that they used to switch equipment, such as wheels, in order to make a sale. I recall a red cab on the showroom floor with the 17" wheel option crossed off and 16"s sitting on the car.

Here's a photo of the interior of SS820307, 13th from the last coupe. October 1994 build date. It doesn't have option 423, center console lid and cassette and coin holder. This console tray is VERY popular in european 968s.

Not to hijack this thread but does anyone have a part number for that console tray and is it still available? I really need to get my own Porsche Parts CD <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/unsure.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> .

I have seen that, mostly on CS's from the UK. I would not mind having one.

Flash that may save another 13.5 oz's.
