Plug missing?
#1

I changed my oil the other day and while I had the 968 up on the hoist I went exploring.

Is there a "plug" missing in this photo? It seems strange that this inspection port would be "open"...

Yep, turn the cap off of a Mobile one bottle upside down and stick it in there.

lol - that's not a horrible temporary step. this one is jay's pet issue. there is a rubber plug that goes there. not expensive. still in stock the last time i checked.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I will install the temporary solution and order a proper plug along with some other items that are needed.

If I had to bet, that plug is probably missing in the majority of the 968s out there . Both of mine were without it.

All 3 of the 968's in my family have that open hole. I had no idea we were actually missing a part since they are all the same. Looks like an addition to the parts list for the next order.

Not sure if the missing plug makes any difference ; I guess if you drive your car through some gravel, dirt, or otherwise nasty conditions where all sorts of things can blow in there, accumulating and getting into places where it can cause issues it's best to have the plug, but absent that, is it really a problem driving without it ?

I noticed mine was open like that when I looked a few weeks ago. I'll have to get a plug for it too.

moisture and dirt gets in there and causes the lubrication of the clutch fork to go away, which in turn causes the shaft to wear, causing an increase in load at the pedal, resulting in firewall failure.

and where do we look for this missing plug? no description was given as to the location. it would help for a novice mechanic like myself.

as shown in the pic, it's on the side of the bell housing on the driver side, just forward of the starter.
