PBOC at Barber
#1

Spent the weekend at Barber motorsports with the PBOC. Saturday was rainy and cold day and a number of cars slammed the armco pretty hard. Spins were everywhere, just ask Charles who was busy testing the limits of his car

Sunday was fantastic, sunny and cool. Traction was a bit scetchy in the morning but the afternoon sessions were fantastic. I managed to set a new personal best lap time of 1:45:xx (sorry no lap timer, measured from video and a stopwatch) and was consistantly running 1:46's and 47's. All in all I couldn't be happier with my little hybrid.

So, what difference does dropping a 968 engine into a 924S make. Well just before the swap my best runs for in the 1:51+ range so that makes for about 6 seconds at this point. Clearly this does not control for the fact that I have had more seat time since then and for the upgraded front brakes (just about everthing else is the same). I can't wait for next month when I put the car on Road Atlanta where HP is more critical. There I was running 1:51-1:52, I'm hoping for 1:41 next month. Time will tell.

Tim:

You were fast indeed with the 924 S3. You looked to be passing the entire field. The corner worker took a few snap shots of us. She told me they were waging their bets that I would crash at the kink. I was working on my latest driving experiment of "grass skipping" by using the apex gators as a launching pad. Look out evil kinevil. I was eventually able to take the Kink flat out but not without a few close calls.

I can't decide if you are crazy or insane, but you clearly are not afraid to push the envelope. Looking forward to driving with you at the next event. I'm still working on getting some video together, I'll try to get some posted soon.

Finally had time to get some video together. Here is an interesting lap. It is right there as one my quickest of the day, however, I get held up at the end, suggesting that I had a faster lap in progress

Awesome Vid. Look forward to seeing you beat the Bimmers in NASA.

When I fix my motor on the 968 I would like you to help me with my in car videos. I got the proper rigging but not the proper camera. What type of camera are you using?

Wow - great video. Didn't realize that track was so fast. Sweepers galore.

What kind of tires are you on?

Charles, the camera is just a MiniDV Canon, don't know the model off the top of my head.

Clem, Toyo RA1's (225/50/15).

If your track car is pretty much stock weight then make sure to get them shaved, otherwise you will get chunking. Full depth they make a moderately good intermediate rain tire.

Yep - car is full weight, thanks for the heads up on shaving.

Not to be argumentative, but I run RA-1s full depth on my stock coupe and haven't had any chunking. YMMV.
