Any one going to the Barber PCA Race
#1

Was wondering if any fellow 968's are going to the Barber Race - I'm trying to gather some fellow racers from FLA - need to get the car back on the track - haven't driven since Sebring. Charles - are you going to come out - if not race - r u going to do the DE. I could use some pointers, never been to Barber. I'm also trying to attach some pics from the Sebring Club Race - tried once before but they were too large - Trying again - Good Luck Jim this week at Lime Rock - make us proud.

Hey! A BLUE Firehawk car? We have a yellow one and a red one in the Chicago region. I believe both were ex-Dave White Racing.

Do tell the story of the blue car...

Lou,

I'll be at the DE but not racing. I've got close to 30 days in at Barber and have instructed there 8 days or so. I also live 5 minutes from the track, so if you need anything, let me know.

Here's a link to some video of Barber http://www.dpo.uab.edu/~tnagy/Bmslowres.wmv

I am signed up for the race, but I will be in a 924S. Try to not run over me. I was at the first PCA race there 2 years ago and I believe there were 19 cars wrecked on the first day. The next day, Bill Mitchell cussed us out and the track manager told us we had set a track record - for pounds of oil-dry used in one day. They made us run the sprint race with a no-spin rule. I've been there a couple of times since with PBOC and things are better now that more drivers have learned the track. It is a great track, but take your time in the early sessions and learn it. There are no long straights and several blind corners, so you are fully engaged the whole lap. Lemming has posted video of a lap here and you may find others on the web. Use these to get familiar with the track ahead of time. I'm usually car 140. Look me up if you come.

Wow! Great video and great driving, is that an early 944 or a 924S? Thanks for sharing, Bob Blackwell.

Thanks Bob. The car is my frankenporsche: 924S chassis, 968 engine, and 951 tranny. It weighs in around 2600lbs with me suited up to drive. The car is currently awaiting its next upgrade, Pete's header and stage 2 chip which should arrive today!!!

In reference to another thread, I'm still running small wheels and tires (15x7 with 225's). The run in the video was with Toyo RA1s.

Tim - you must really drive some people nuts with that car. I'm sure the vette and noble guys must love being blown away by a 924!

I've seen a 924 w/968 driveline at a track day in Seattle. He wasn't near the driver you are and he was all over guys in 996, 993, etc. They would come look at his car, scratching thier heads. Pretty funny.

I have to admit, one of my favorite things at the track is when people come over after a session and say "How the hell can you stay with me down the straight?".

Of course, I'm sure that you noticed, the Noble could pull away from me with ease on the straights. I can't tell you how much I wanted to drive that car!

Thanks Tim for the link and cool video - nice job, JWW - I'll look you up at the race - I'm sure I'll be tip toeing around at first - plan on doing the DE the day before - I figured it will be a good way to learn the track. Dave - I know well the 2 Firehawks from Chicago - they were Dave White's, who is both a friend and my Mechanic. He is the one that built my blue car. The 2 chicago cars were Tony and Casey Singers - who then sold them. They were both at the Sebring club race and I talked to the new owners at length. My Blue car, Dave has built over the last 3 years to the Firehawk specs - It still needs a few tweaks but is basically done, thank God cause my wallet is nearly empty.

Thanks Lou. Good to see another. The ones in Chi-town get run regularly and I get to see them often. Awefully nice cages in these cars and Mr. White sure seems to have 968's figured out.

Good motoring!

Lou and Tim:

I have a 54,000 mile replacement motor being shipped to me Monday (Tim thanks for considering me for your engine). I'll be sending off the Barber paper work Monday. I haven't raced since Road Atlanta 2005...looking forward to getting back to the big fight. I'll be glad to give you some pointers but take my advice at your own risk. I'll see you at the race.

Thx Charles

I see you are from Bham. I am about 1.5 hours away. Have had a 944 for a couple years and just picked up a 968. I think I will be in Bham Saturday, might have a chance to talk cars. Any good, decent priced, shops you use in Bham? I have heard of Eurasian (on here), and plan to give them a call. I do all my own work pretty much, but just want somebody else to go through the new car.

I do all my own work as well. The one person that I would send my car to is Stephen at "Stephen's Garage" 205-326-4542. He does great work and is a really good guy. He does all of my tire mounting for my track car and helped me to sort out some of the wiring issues that I had when I dropped the 968 engine into my 924S.
