Talk about a step of faith............I am obviously new to you folks but as a long time owner of a 1965 356sc I am an old hand in the wounderful world of Porche madness. I have never been close to a 968 Cab. Seen only one coupe up close. Never driven or even sat in a 968................YET I just purchased a silver gray 1992 cab from a friend of mines estate. I had it checked out by the dealer in CA. and he sent me a great report on the car saying "we know this car he changes the oil every 3 months even if he doesn't drive it. Ross he says buy the car it's cream puffy". I figure it has GOT to be easier for me to get in and out of than my 356? My friend and I had spoken at great length about the car before his untimely death and his wife told me he said I should have first denial on the car. I have only seen one lame picture of the car but couldn't say no at the price she said he wanted me to pay for it. Sooooooooooo I am now waiting for it to arrive via DAS in the next two weeks. By the way any volunteers to tell my wife what I did???????

Hi Ross and welcome,
You can see that you are no longer a Lurker and are now a proud "Newbie" (After making your first post).
Before you drive you should look up "Golden Rules" lots of great hints there to make your experience better.
These fine autos do require more than oil and after 15 years you should definately consider replacing much, if not all of the rubber pieces on the car (hoses, belts in particular, bushings,etc.)
This group has a ton of accumulated knowledge on 968's, don't hesitate to ask.

welcome Ross. . . wow I have been nuts about 356's ever since Kelly McGillis and Top Gun. . . <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/blink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Yeah you'll want to put in some preventative maintenance for all the rubber stuff as well as the hydraulics if they haven't been done recently. . . we can all give you plenty of pointers.

Thanks for the great welcome...........I will be receiving the service books and papers this week. I was assured by Porsche that the maintainece was always done and then some. Looking forward to a great ride. The timing is great. the weather is just turning nice here in CT. That old 356sc is fun to drive but I have never been able to trust it on a long trip. I really want to hit the road with this baby. It has just 80,000 well cared for miles.

Welcome Ross. Sounds like you came across a great deal, a well cared for 68 in a great color. If you let the deal go by, then your comments of "what have I done" would have been more appropriate.

Hi Ross, it just so happens you have one of the biggest 968 enthusiasts right down the street from you in Trumbull. I've been a 968 owner for over 11 years. We'll need to hook up. Are you a member of PCA? If so, we'll need to get you signed up for the 968 register. Not too many 968s around here so it will be good to see one. I did see a new dark blue one in Monroe last year. Oh yeah ......by looking around at the Forum I guess my 968 is slate gray. The owners son called it characol gray........the Porsche dealer called it silver gray............I was always told a picture is worth a thousand words welllllll The picture I have isn't worth much. Once I get the title the paint code might be on it and then I guess I'll really know.

Ross,
Porsche did offer both polar silver (light) and slate grey (darker) in 1992. Your car appears to be slate grey from the photo. It is a rarer color then polar silver. Both were offered all 4 years of production. I have 13 slate grey cabs in the regsitry and 37 polar silver.

The thing is, and I hate to say it because the 356sc and I have had a love hate relationship for over 30 years now, I know your right. Now this may be because I'm an all excited new owner but...........I live in Newtown CT and we have the only Labor Day parade in CT. It would be such a rush to get as many close by 968's to ride in that parade .huh huh Being an elected dem here in town me and mine for sure will be required there. Hell it's the shortest parade but lots of people show up even the Gov. and senators and congressmen show up..............

Ross you are going to love that car. It will likely seem very cushy and modern in comparison to the 356, but that will probably be more of a good thing than bad. What you may lose in raw driving feel you will gain in polish.
The 968 was rumored to be Ferry Porsche's favorite model....
