I want to switch to steel nuts for my wheels as I have no idea how old the alloy ones are & are looking very beat up. Since the rear wheel is off - I checked the model # inside and its 996.362.128.00. A 996 Carrera 2 model wheel. A quick google showed me there are Ball seat nuts and Conical nuts. I can't really tell from the photo's I've seen online from the alloy one I have in my hand now. Do I get the Ball seat nuts?
Thanks.

They are "Ball Seat". Do some research using Google and you will find them very reasonable. I bough a set of 20 open ended ball seats for my track wheels and 20 chrome nuts for my street wheels. I think they were about $1.25/ nut. All Ball Seat. I'll see if I can find the site.

That's a bald pea nut Brian, not a bald seal nut. Our ATL members will get that one...

Reviving this old thread about nuts...

I have been trying to source new lug nuts for the 968 but have been coming up empty handed. I have been looking for lightweight alloy lugs that are closed ended, light gold in color, and would extend about 3/4" - 1" beyond the face of the wheel. Obviously, they would also need to be compatible with the Porsche OEM wheels that I have (17" Turbo Twists) and not too expensive (titanium lugs of that size are outside my budget). Any idea where I could source something like that?

Just be careful with used nuts, Flash wrote a while back that alloy nuts are only designed for a finite number of torque cycles then they start to get sloppy. When I put on 5mm spacers I went with steel nuts because shorter studs require harder nut material. I realize that there is a weight issue at work here, but the 5 mm spacer improves the look enough to make the weight issue less important.

Thanks! I would not use refurbished/used lug nuts. That just sounds like a bad idea... I don't take my wheels off unless there is a problem or I am changing the tires, so the alloy nuts should be fine. Just need to find a source...

I ended up getting the chrome lugs you referenced. Thanks for the link!

It turns out that the Turbo Twist wheels have a pretty deep recess for the lug nuts.  As a result, it you purchase the size that I did (linked above), they are completely hidden from view. I was hoping to find some lugs that poked above the wheel face by about 1/2"-1". Guess that getting the "extended" format is the only way to do that. The trick is finding extended, closed end lugs in with the ball-shaped bottom used for Porsche OEM wheels. Undecided

Lugs on standard cup wheels are pretty deep too...
