I finally did it. Yesterday I had a new receiver/head unit installed. I opted for the Pioneer Premier DEH-P600UB. The model number means absolutely nothing to me but it does everything I want. It has a single-disk CD player instead of the six-disc changer I had with my old Alpine but, more importantly, it plays and controls my iPod and has a direct connect for my Sirius Sporster 5. That's very cool. The MP3 player feature will even play music from a flash drive, although I can't figure out how to transfer anything but the songs--I lose the folders and playlists, etc., etc., etc.
Which, I guess, is really the point of writing this post. Figuring things out. This new receiver/player does everything but it is NOT uncomplicated. The Operations Manual comes on a CD Rom and it's 72 pages. I kid you not. SEVENTY-TWO #@<{1^& PAGES.
I thought my Sportser 5 was complicated. In comparsion, NOT.
As I said, it does everything I wanted and the sound is good. Lots of power. My car has the HiFi, 10 speaker option, so there are lots of speakers to fill the cabin with lots of sound. After I finally figure out how to use the #@<{1^& thing, I'm sure I'll be very happy with it.
Now I have to go find some light bulbs for my third brake light. It's time for annual safety inspection/certification. Bummer. At least it gives me a reason to ride around in my 968 and listen to some sounds.
