Company for my 968, 2004 911 Cab. 

 

Flat6Innovations Stage II engine and some other goodies, somewhere around 60 extra hp. Lots of little projects to do on it. Mostly cosmetic. Included a Euro Sport Suspension (M030) to install.

 

I'm thinking about changing my screen name to "04SilverCab".  Pretty original name, eh?

Very nice.  With the Flat6 stage II engine that is a hot car.     A nice matched pair, I guess I can say 'cause I have an '02 911 in the garage to match the 968 also.

 

Just curious how this happened.  Were you actively searching, or did this just happen to come along?

Ah, another person with Porsches with engines at the opposite ends! You decide which is the wrong end:-)


Not really actively looking, but was on Rennlist 996 section last month just looking around and this car was announced it was going up for sale on BAT. I'd watched, and bid just for fun, on a couple 968 auctions there and thought it would be interesting to see how a car with this engine did. So it was bidding low at the start so I jumped in. Pretty soon it was over and I stole it. Kept waiting for the last minute big bids to show up and none did. Now in the process of detailing and sorting it out. It does have amazing power! And the IMSB is permanently fixed.


Completely different cars. 996 is more powerful but not as nimble.

Oh, ok, but still that floor cover is soooo nice ! Perhaps my next project , even if the rest of the garage is cluttered beyond help .


As for where the engine should be in a car, that's a tough call, when a lot of super-cars engines are actually in the rear ( even if some are officially designated as " mid-engined " ), particularly those with see-through cover panels. When I grow up , that's what I wanna own - a visible rear engine super-car. Just not a 911, I'm not at all a fan. Sorry Bob, it's one of those " to each his own " kinda' things ..

The floor is really nice, not dusty or dirty and I can easily wipe up what I spill. Plus it looks good, and after all, I deserve it.


My second 911, the first was an 83. Had an 356 many years back. And a true mid-engine 914.


I wonder if anyone sells a see through cover for the back of a 911?

Thanks, i think the car will do just fine.:-) The Recaro seat is nice and looking foward to installing the M030 stuff. Need it on the fun roads around here.


The car just arrived last weekend and it spent several days in for service (fluids, oil, new coolant tank, one new tire). Spend a day cleaning it. Friday my wife and i finally got to drive it over the mountain for lunch It performed very well, gobs of power. The tip s was fine, left it in manual mode for much of the drive. The engine compensates for only five speeds. My wife will be able to enjoy driving this car, she doesn't like the 6 speed in the 968, she's afraid she'll break something. A cab is something different for us to; last drop top we had was a A-H 3000 back in the 70's.

Your floor covering looks just like mine. Very smart. Ds where were you raised in a barn? Clean is where it’s at. Cleanliness is next to godliness. At least on this coast. Now mind you I looked at all the mud I tracked in yesterday from the snow storm and started twitching. But I got over it, it will get cleaned sometime this week. Earlier in my life I would have felt compelled to clean it immediately. Not now, no worries. I still think about it.

Az I must confess I have been browsing 996’s myself. BAT is Bring a trailer? If it is I just got turned on to it and look at lots of different ones but I’m looking for a 996. Just don’t know where I would put it. My contractor wants me to build an extension onto my garage. These darn cars are such a slippery slope!!!

Yes, my mother raised me to be clean, thus the floor also has to be kept clean. It's nice to be able to easily clean mud and water off the garage floor, helps keep the cars clean and not track stuff into the house.


996's are like 968's, underappreciated by Porsche snobs. But we know better.


This car may cost me an extension on my garage, not sure how long my wife will be happy parking in the driveway with my truck.

Yours is a six speed?

 

Nope.  Our cars are almost the same, mine is an '02 C4S Coupe.  But also in Silver, Grey interior, and Tiptronic !!!! which of course also define quite a bit of the character of the car.   I really like the Tiptronic.  My 968 is Tip also.    My Porsches have all been daily drivers (I have yet to receive the gift of enjoying a garage queen), and with the Tip I get the best of both worlds.  I got it about a year ago, and now .... almost every other day I alternate between the 2 of them.  Depends on the weather, where I am going, how far, etc.  And Tip cars have been great for the family, I let my wife and kids all drive them as needed, or as desired, so they also got to enjoy the experience.

 

But congrats on a sweet 996 -- I am pretty amazed at how excellent they are.

 

And my garage is not so clean, I that way when I work on the cars she stays away.

Yes, as a matter of fact, was ! My " step father" Joseph and my mother Mary both tried to instill the importance of cleanliness, but for some reason that only stuck with me when it comes to the house interior , whereas my garage has always remained more or less a cluttered mess.

Ok, this is it ! ; there is no cooler man cave on the planet than Ryan's shop ..the only thing missing ( or maybe it's there but just out of the photo frame ) is a panoramic screen on the wall which plays old episodes of Top Gear , 24/7 !
