Hi,

Little did I know that I would always regret the day I sold my 968 Cab. That happened several years ago when I had more toy cars than any sane person should have, and somthing had to go. I just chose the wrong car to sell. If any out there remember, my car won best Cab at Hershey in 2003.

Times change and now I'm retired and all the other toys are gone and I want, no I NEED to replace my Cab. I started looking over a year ago but life has a way of stepping in any finding other uses for your money. Well I'm glad to say that life also has a way of working out, so now I'm back in the market for a Cab.

I rejoined the forum to bring my knowlage of the car up to date and reach out to the community. I can be found in Plantation Florida, which is just outside Ft. Lauderdale and hopefully will find the right car within the next 60 days.

We are so glad that you have regained your sanity (or is that insanity?) and decided to return to the 968 brotherhood.

Best of luck in your search, let us know how we can help.

Regards,

Jay

Welcome! Take a look on Autotrader if you haven't already done so. There always seem to be lots of 968s for sale, and for some reason most of them tend to be Cabs, mostly in excellent condition (at least from the pictures and descriptions), and usually a few in Florida. Good luck!

Welcome back!

My cab was originally sold in Florida, but you can't have it...

I am downsizing my home this fall so I can have better storage for my 968 in the winter! Now that could be called insanity by some, but to me it's a matter of priorities! Well ok, I'll admit that it is because the "nice old" man across the street is giving me a "smokin" deal on his house, so it makes $ sense. But the garage is what is pushing me to action!

Thanks for the warm welcomes that have been offered.

I have to say that looking for a new Cab is a lot harder when you have already spent years working on one. My last car was black and I would prefer white, silver, blue or any other color than black. Black is great but very hard to keep that way. I would also prefer an 03 to 05 car because of the seats in those years. I would buy an older car but then I have the expense of replacing the seats with the newer year on top of having the interior redone to my liking.

Then you have the mechanical concerns, timeing belt, water pump, chain tensioner shoe. Does the top work? What is the condition of that top? Are the front lower panels in place or been damaged? The list can go on and on like that and it gets harder when you are looking across the entire country.

But I know my car is out there and when I find it I'll let you all know.

So has your experience been that the cars are not as nice in person as they appear to be in the ads? I was selling mine (since changed my mind) last year, and to me, it really seemed like it was very much a buyers' market, with a huge number of 968s for same (I think Autotrader.com alone had over 70), most in nicer condition than mine, with lower miles, etc., and often at depressingly low (if you're a seller) prices. So it appeared to me that if you were lucky enough to be a prospective 968 buyer, you had a smorgasbord of cars to choose from, which made selling mine for a price that was anywhere near acceptable a hopeless endeavor. It's now in pieces, on the way to being converted into a (mostly) dedicated track car...

As of today, Autotrader has 34 cars listed ranging in price from 26K plus to 5K, miles are all over the place from 16K to 100 plus. I think the problem is dealing with a seller that has a car but is not really into them as we are, or the other situation of a seller that is really into the car but his idea of the value is not realistic.

I have spent the last 10 years owning a dealership so I have more than a passing understanding of the market and a car is only worth what someone will pay for it today no matter how much we love it. A car guy should buy from a car guy because they can communicate. A car guy should sell to the same kind of guy because he will pay more knowing the seller was really into his car. When I sold my 968 I had listed it on eBay. I got a call form a PCA member that was interested, we must have spent close to three hours on the phone talking about that car and what I had done to it over the years. When we finished that conversation he purchased the car sight onseen for my full asking price. Why, beacuse he knew that car was just as I presented it. Just as an aside he still has it.

Oh, so you're not finding a whole of lot of 968s for sale that are owned by people who really understand and appreciate them? Interesting; I would have thought most 968 owners are die-hard enthusiasts, but apparently not. Well, anyway, best of luck with the search. At least you're in an area where there are quite a few of them around; here in Austin, TX, it's utterly barren, 968-wise. [Image: sad.gif]

Welcome back and good luck in your search!

Not sure what you meant by an 03 to 05 car, did you mean model years '03 to '05, which of course were long after the 968 was built, but in the range of the 986?

Or am I, once again, missing the point?

I'm guessing he meant '93 to '95
