New O2 oxygen sensor - is Bosch 13011 the same?
#21

Not a good idea when you have little room to work

Some of the guys over here have had to remove the exhaust to get them out what a pain that is.

You can use the universal lambda sensors if you can cut and shut 3 wires makes it even cheaper

I can raise the car with my MaxJax so no problem there :-)

I will give mine a go next week, both with cold and warm exhaust, and I will report back.

If I have to take my exhaust off it will be your fault Michael - thanks to you I suddenly want to replace my 23-year old sensor ;-)

I have prepared a DIY for oxygen sensor replacement, and I welcome any comments if you see something that could lead anyone to make a costly mistake, etc.

It should be attached if I did it right...

Nice DIY Michael!

Today I got mine out, and off course the exhaust had to come off. The 22 mm hex was more like a 21,5 due to the rust. No lambda-tool can make that right.

Eventually the battle was won by filing the hex to a 21 mm, cutting the SOB in half so a standard socket would fit. A ring spanner just ruined the hex even more because of the sheer force that had to be applied (where's Duff-man when you need him?), so the the socket was the final option. I thank the gods that the thread inside the exhaust was still ok, the one on the probe was completely gone.

I hereby proudly present the broken remains of my defeated opponent :-). Ooh yeah.

Great DIY instructions, but I'd need some oxygen myself, LOL, if I were to tackle this job on my own.. guess I'll just have to put up with the bitching and moaning of my mechanic about how much of a PITA it was to do the work..and then have to pay him for that, on top of it all ! Ugh. Well. there's just no winning for mechanically inept folks like me..

Bulti-- sorry u had to take the exhaust off... But hey not my fault :0)

Regarding threads, are u saying the new O2 sensor was easy to screw in to the exhaust? did you "chase" the exhaust threads first?

Lol, Waylander, yes you did. I'm already glad you didn't say the oil pan would have to be removed :-)

Michael - the sensor went in with some effort, but it was ok. The threads were still in good shape. At a first attempt the sensor would only go in about half the way without applying TOO much force. Then I indeed cleaned or chased the threads and all went pretty smooth. Here's a pic of the "gewindefeile" or "thread file":

Does anyone(Waylander) know the part number for the bracket that holds the O2 connectors - I replaced mine and when I pulled it out of the bracket it basically broke in half

have it zipped tied for now but would like to replace the plastic bracket if I can. also the clip one lower down also broke but less worried about it.

Thanks Sam

Thanks Waylander - I was sure you would be able to provide the part number...
