New Member Intro...

Hi all,

I'm Michael, from Chigwell, Essex. I don't have a 968 yet but I've finally got to a point where I can start looking, so I'm off to see a '94 Sport at the weekend. I was given a ride in a friend's one years ago and can still vividly remember the feeling of being pinned to the seat when he demonstrated the acceleration and being pinned to the seatbelt when he demonstrated the stopping ability!

Welcome Michael,

The 968 is the greatest Porsche ever built, but of course we are a bit biased.

When you find the right "Sport" we will demand many pictures.

Michael,

Welcome to the forum and best of luck with your search. May you find the car that you are looking for and be blessed with excellent adventures, experiences and memories from the car. There is a wealth of excellent information here. If it has to do with the 968, you have hit the mother lode. Lots of experienced people to, so ask lots of questions.

Good luck in your search Michael! Theres a few good ones floating about here in the UK at the moment. Prices seem quite resilient but there are a couple of bargains to be had, depending on budget etc. I suggest you join the UK 968 site as there are a lot of people much more knowledgeable than me that can advise on individual cars.

PM me a copy of the ad if you want and I will do a bit of research for you :-)

Hi all,

Thanks for the warm welcome

So far so good, the car looks worth pursuing so I've put a holding deposit on it for now. Next step is to organise an independent specialist inspection - the long Bank Holiday weekend is killing me The test drive was interesting, my dad and girlfriend came with me as extra pairs of eyes so we all piled in. I know that they're 2+2 rather than 4-seaters, but I never appreciated just how little room there is in the back of these things - I've never had to literally fold myself into a back seat before!

Hi all,

Well, that was a mercifully short search - the inspection came back clean, so I pulled the trigger and brought it home today. It's actually a '95 model built in late '94. The journey home was fun - twisty A-roads to start with, where the car instantly 'made sense', followed by a nice run down the motorway. There are a few niggles to be sorted, mainly electrical and sunroof-related, but overall I'm very happy. The only trouble now is that I can see my beloved Beetle getting less use...!

More time in the 968, and less time in the Beetle? Win-win!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Don't mind me, I'm just jealous you were able to find one so fast! And a sport to boot!

Is the beetle new or classic?

Yeah, I think I got lucky with this one. I drove it into work today and got plenty of admiring glances from the other petrolheads

The Beetle is a 1973 GT Beetle - another UK-only special edition

It's Iris Blue, but the phone camera seems to have made it look more purple than it is...

I'm doing well so far, despite me being extremely careful having read how it can happen, both sunroof gears stripped the second time I opened it and the odometer and trip meter both died when I reset the trip meter this morning! Old cars eh? Thank Heaven for this place!
