Hello, My name is Gary and I am interested in purchasing a 968, Currently have a 911 and just want to know more about the 968, I had one 944 years ago - 87 944s. From Greenwood SC

Welcome! Think of a 968 as a 944S on steroids. 3 litre, twin cams, 16 valves, 236 HP with a 6 speed. After I bought my '94 968 cab I sold my "87 944S because I needed room in the garage, the cab is more fun than a coupe, and the 968 is just a better car, the last iteration of the front engine water cooled series that started with the 924. I'm sorry Porsche quit making them and replaced the 968 with the Boxster in '95.



Enjoy your search. A 968 cab is worth looking for. These cars handle quite differently than your 911, as with your old 944S weight distribution is about 50-50, so drive some and decide if it fits your style.



Read the Forum and you'll save a lot of time re-inventing the wheel. A lot of these folks have "been there, done that" already. Glad to have you aboard.

Welcome, and best of luck with your search. There are 32 of them for sale currently on Autotrader alone, covering a wide range of prices, colors, transmissions, and body styles, so if you're willing to travel, you shouldn't have too much trouble finding one. Although this is down from when I was trying to sell mine (decided to keep it and turn it into a track car), when there were something like 70 (!) for sale, iirc.

Welcome. I had an '87 944S as well <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Be sure to get a Pre-Purchase Inspection checklist to read over, and when you call someone, ask for *lots* of pictures and don't be afraid to ask about the condition of everything that concerns you... I traveled when searching for my car, and despite speaking with some sellers for an hour or more, I was very disappointed in the condition of some of the cars when I drove to see them, and I was even more disappointed in the seller's newfound ignorance about obvious poor repainting, front and rear damage to the bumpers and grills, non-working tops and a/c, etc...

i highly recommend reaching out to local owners when you get close to getting one, and narrow down the choices to 1 or 2 - have one of them go with you or at least look at the car first - it will teach you a lot about the car, and probably help avoid pitfalls
