Northern NJ to Pittston PA any suggestions?
#1

I'm taking a trip to see some family in PA this weekend. Anyone know of any nice roads between Northern, NJ and Scranton\Pittston, PA? I've been on pretty much everything in NJ, found a few in PA between the water gap and 380 and a few between 380 and 81. Not sure whats good or not, any suggestions?

I wish I could help, I was just in that neighborhood earlier this week going from Penn State to Adams, MA. I tried two different routes going and coming back and neither were anything to get excited about, unless you call getting angry excitement. I did use 209 through the Del. Water Gap Park and liked it fine, although it was wet at the time and with more traffic it could be two hour's of headache. But 209 runs NE/SW and you presumedly want to go NW/SE. The geography of the Appalachians favors NE/SW roads because that's the way the ridges run, travelling orthogonally to that often means picking your way from one road or town to another, although there do exist some really great roads over those hills.

If you're coming West on Rte 80 take the exit for Rte 115 - it's a few miles West of the 380 exit. I want to say it's the Blakeslee exit. If you get as far as the 476 N.E. extension / Pocono exit, you've gone one exit too far. Take a right at the end of the exit onto 115 and it'll take you as far up as Rte 81. If you take Rte 81 North, the next exit will be for Dupont/ Pittston. Lots of curves, twists, and forest and a 55mph speed limit over a majority of the road. It's a lot nicer than 380 and about 10-15 miles before you hit 81N. The last part is the best as you head down the mountain. Stew

Well, I ended up going rt80 and got off just before 380 and went 435? It goes through a state park I think. Wasn't too bad of a ride but some of the road had huge expansion joints. Then about 1/2 up 380 I got on 502 (or 503, don't remember). Same situation with that road as well. Overall I cut about 10 miles off the trip and didn't have to deal with the pocono traffic for the most part.

Thanks for the info stewhatch, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to check the forum this morning before leaving, but next time I'll try that way.

Moses, normally the ride up 209 on the PA side and down whatever road it is on the NJ side that goes through all the highlands and down to exit 1 on rt80. Normally we cross at the dingmans ferry bridge sometimes we go all the way up to Port Jervis and come all the way from the top of NJ to rt80 and back home.

Supposedly Porsche filmed some commercials up near Port Jervis, any idea where? Also, anyone know of more good rides in Northern NJ, Western PA, Southern NY????
