NC/SC event
#1

OK. So i realized I have been a P-Car owner for over ten years and haven't been to a single P-Event. Gonna try and get to Hershey this April, but I was wondering if anyone in the NC/SC area would want to do an East Coast version of Paso? Some twisties, some wineries... I don't know many places around here yet, but I know some of you young chaps out there might. Takers?

Seems to be a few 968s in the area. Looking forward to seeing some at Charlotte's Cars and Coffee (North Lake Mall) this Saturday. Perhaps get a little talk started.

We don't have a whole lot of twisties here in Charleston, but we have a pretty scenic area that makes for nice drives, and there is the whole downtown tourist thing. We also have probably the highest population of 968's in any city, and the 968's all started there American lives here in Charleston at the port and former prep center.

So ya the Charleston folks would be happy to do something if there was ever an interest.

Been to Charleston on a ride with some Harley buddies - great town...the food was great and the beer was cold...would be just as fun to "do it" in a 968 - with the top down, of course...

Top down INDEED! Oh, you mean the car..... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> So, I'm researching some possible routes and wineries. Obviously guys who love there would be better resources - both from experience and the ability to recon.... but here a couple options I've come across.

Routes:

Ashley River Scenic Byway - Only 11 miles long, but some cool historic sites along the way. http://www.discoversouthcarolina.com/see...fault.aspx

US 421 - 89 miles with sweepers. More driving than Ashley River. It's in NC, but ends up in Wilmington. A few wineries there. http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/nc_coastal.html

US 210 - 100 miles, better chance for curves. Mainly country roads. Ends up just north of Wilmington, but ending can be revised to get to a winery. http://www.motorcycleroads.us/roads/nc210.html

Wineries:

NC wineries - Have never been to any of these. Anyone have experience? http://www.catchwine.com/wineries/north_carolina/

SC wineries - Same deal. http://www.catchwine.com/wineries/south_carolina/

Another option is to attack the foothills in the northern part of the two states, rather than the coastal areas. A bit further of a drive to get to, but some real twisties, better range of routes to choose from, and wider variety of wineries as well. http://www.motorcycleroads.us/regions/nc...chian.html Blue Ridge Hwy has 465 miles of twisties and many off-shoots to choose from.

Anyone have some ideas or more insight?

By looking at some of the motorcycle route sites out there, Charleston doesn't have a whole lot of options for what we're looking for... Greenville is a bit more centrally located between the two states (and out-of-staters)... It's 4 hours for me either way, but if people are coming from as far away as PA.... plus it's near the mountains and a few more wineries. Here is a new possible route and timeline. It is longer than in-town routes, but comes with a promise of twisties and scenery.

Meet up in North Greenville area on a Friday evening for meet and greet. Saturday morning depart as depicted below. The Northern route is just under 150 miles, but can take 3-4 hours. It has literally hundreds of waterfalls along the way, plenty of chances for photo-ops and such. The end of the trail is Murphy, NC. There are two or three wineries there. Can choose to keep the group there for the evening and everyone depart for home in the morning, or we can make a loop back on the southern route back to the Greenville area, where there is a few more wineries as well as a better selection of food. Keep in mind that this would be 6 hours of driving for about 300 miles for the loop. Then you have to get home....

Discuss. Criticize. Offer up some other ideas. As I said before, I'm not a lifer in NC/SC.... I'm not as familiar with the area.

Can't get the pic to load. You can google map from Greenville via Rosman, NC for the northern route. just did a search on these supposed hundreds of waterfalls in the area. Of that # of waterfalls, there are no fewer than 5 that are either right at the road along our route, or at minimum visible from the road....maybe more.

Flash, trying to get word out about this possible event. I pulled all the names of people within driving distance from event site options... but I can only message four people at a time.... is there a way to send a blast PM to say.... 63 people? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.png" class="smilie" alt="" /> There are many people who don't check up the site every day or every week but have their settings to get an email when they get a PM....

Sounds like a great event. I'm in NC today and come here frequently on business. I'll watch this space. The drive sounds spectacular. Could i show up in a rented c300? (ducking).

Been in NC all week at a seminar, but not much chance I'll be able to drive this far for an event <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/sad.png" class="smilie" alt="" />
