Mystery vacuum pipe
#1

I have found a vaccum pipe that runs across the front of the engine then bends round to back of the distributor. There it ends with a rubber elbow that has been blanked off. There is no obvious connection for this pipe. What does it do? What should it connect to?

Pics? If it is a small diameter plastic hose. It's sounds like it's the vac line going to your heater control valve. Is your heat always on????

I agree with Kevin. Sounds like the vacuum line to the heater valve. A picture would cinch it. Find the heater valve and see if there is a vacuum line running to it, it not Kevin is right.

Here is where it ends at the rubber elbow. It is blanked off with something that looks like a ball bearing. I think that there is something missing, but what? The IPC and manual don't give enough info.

Your heater control valve connects to that little elbowed vac line. You need to look at a diagram of your heater system to find out what's missing. Someone might have blocked off you heater system because of a faulty heater core. Take a side pic from above the exhaust manifold. Maybe I can tell you what's missing.

Somebody may have decided to block the heater control valve in the "off" position, as you probably rarely need the heater where you live.. (Is even the HCV still installed?) As stated pictures will tell..
