my next car is............
#41

Or is it another 968? The prices need to stabilize. Yesterday at the swap meet numerous people who talked to me about my white car said that 968 prices were going up. I think, besides Flash's car, the higher priced 968's are scams on rubes. What say you?

And I still think you're crazy to spend $ 170 K on a car ( does not matter that you can afford it ) .

But then again, most people would think I'm crazy to spend the kind of money i do on clothes or watches, or whatnot .,so I suppose it's all in each person's own perception of what's important or of value to them. So, never mind, you're not crazy, LOL, just extravagant . Kettle = Pot syndrome here. :-) :-)

lol - dan - it's really not any different than i'm doing now.  the part you are forgetting is that i've done it before.  i spent nearly that much on the blue car, over a 6 year period, and on top of that, spent 6 years of my time on and off.  what's the difference?  when you get down to it, the targa is a better deal than my blue 968, because it won't be taking up any of my time.

ryan - yes, it will be a company car, just as the blue car is now.

Considering that the new 2016 Cayman called the GT4 is coming one would think that the that the report is based solely on the number of units not on what the total number of cars sold against what was produced. I do not think Porsche would come out with the GT4 if the car was a lemon and did not sell well. What I mean is if Porsche produces 5000 Caymans and sells  3400 of them then that is not so good (68%). But if they produce 3800 of them and sell 3400 then they did much better (89%). Without all the details who can tell, and I say??????????????

that car would not be considered as "my next car" which is the topic of this thread, as it is only available in a manual trans and does not have an opening roof

i will thank everyone to stop diverting it to conversations about other cars, and leave this about the targa only

Dan called you crazy if you buy it. Perhaps he meant delusional? Have you asked God what he thinks of this purchase?

lol - clearly it is far more logical than spending 6 years of my time, and over $150k on a car that does not have steering wheel controls, will never shift as fast as a PDK, and is not worth much more than 1/3 the investment.  i would have asked mr shelby (god) what he thinks, but he died, and so then did any chance of communication.

I retract my crazy accusation regarding the Targa, but reallocate it to all the money he spent on the 968  :glare:

Quote:Could not find the ideal thread to post this story so using this one as close enough - in an article called " ten great cars nobody buys " , in the number ten spot was the Porsche Cayman ! Only 3,400 were sold in 2014 . That seems to be a ridiculously low number to me, considering every review one reads about it lauds it as an absolutely great car. What do you guys think, is it an overlooked gem which in ten or twenty years from now will be a much in demand classic Porsche , or is it another red-headed step child similar to the first generation Boxsters, so pretty much a fun car to have but one you couldn't sell for a nickel ..?

Dan,

Keep in mind those are U.S. sales. The 911 series accounts for about 50% of the car sales with the Boxster, Cayman & Panamera making up the other half. The Cayenne along with the new Macan SUV just about equal the total sales of the cars. As to the Cayman GT4 they are sold out for the year.

well Porsche has twenty + different models on the market, the majority of which which are variations of 911..so I guess the Targa had something to offer flash that none of those other cars, nor for that matter other makes and models, so in that sense $ 170 k may be is indeed a competitive figure, albeit a friggin' expensive one :glare:    its just a car after all, not a house ( in about 46+ of the states anyway..)

Saw another targa yesterday up close.  Man it really looks great in profile.  The glass solves the tumor problem and lets the 911 cam profile shine.

yup - that's exactly what caught my eye too.  i really want that car, and i'm getting closer to being able to make it make sense.

now i'm just working on prepping the blue car for sale.  i should have it done in a couple of weeks.  can't decide if i'm going to bump the power up to 375 again or not.  i do know that i'm returning a few small things to OEM condition, which will make for a smoother drive, and overall just cleaning things up.  trying to decide whether to deliver to the showroom with the splitter or with the apron.  probably going with the apron, since test drives may go badly with the splitter.  it will also be easier for me to drive in the meantime.
