This was one of my first loves. The mark IV Toyota Supra was simply breath taking to me. I remember collecting every article I could find on this car. I remember the first time I saw it in the Toyota showroom and of course my first time driving it. Loved the NA experience but Oh Man that Turbo was the one to have. I even had a purchased of a 94 lined up in late 99 but it didn't work out. Ever since that awful fast and the furious movie these cars have been over priced and highly sought after. So many have been chopped slammed and kitted to the point where they're simply appalling. Time passed and my desire faded as I went in a different direction.

However, yesterday on my way home from work I saw a black anniversary edition turbo Supra. Completely stock and looking showroom ready. Couldn't take my eyes off of it. It made me want one all over again so I hit ebay just to see where there prices were and to my surprise I came across a 94 6spd TT for at 14K. i clicked on the pic and saw This
Reminding me of why I gave up on this.

To my surprise a low mileage well maintained 6spd Supra w/ minimal mods averages $30K After all these years.. sigh.

I'll post pics of my cousins Supra TT later tonight. He is the second owner of a pristine low mileage all original '98 Supra Turbo. This is his second Supra. He also owned a '95 Turbo back in '95 (bought new).

Yeah, the twin-turbo Supra definitely has something of an "it" factor going for it. It's hard to put a finger on. IMHO, it's far from the prettiest car ever made, but there's something about 320 hp in a car of (by today's standards, at least) moderate weight, for an affordable price, that makes these cars very desirable. The early 90's definitely produced some great cars -the Mazde TX7 twin turbo, which I owned, Nissan 300ZX, the Supra, the original Corvette ZR-1, the Miata. I don't include the 968 in this list because, from a performance-per-dollar perspective, it was utterly outclassed by most of its competitors. Which is ironic, because with the passage of time, the equalizing effect of brutal depreciation, and the avilability of great mods, I now consider the 968 to be possibly the best overall car coming from that era.

Cost wise the 68 took way too hard of a hit. Picking one up in mid teens equals a lot of car for the money.

The RX7 can be found in the low teens and the same can be said about the Z. I love them all but the Supra always stood out from the rest. I'm not even saying its better, It just has a presence about it.

One of my work colleagues had a turbo - all black, looked great ! - ( I was driving the 994 in those days ) and even though I would not have ever traded one car for the other, I was very impressed with both the looks / style and the amazing power of that model

Pretty damn impressive, even by todays standards. Very similiar performance to a 333HP E46 M3 or 345HP 928 GTS.

And that's before you start tweaking it. Most are around 450hp now, doesnt seem to take much. I've read many articles with them over 1000.
I'd be happy with a blk on blk sleeper pushing 450.

My buddy has one of those. The began to love that rotary sound we call the weed whacker. Its a blast to drive to. Out of all those early 90s cars the RX is the best handling and the lightest. That car is simply point and shoot. So easy to snatch that little thing around. This is the guy I mentioned that invited me on the Dragon tail run.

Didn't know that. I just consider this one of the nicest looking modded FD3-S ever.

liked them all - didn't buy one because what i had was quicker, lighter, and handled better - pretty much the same reasons i didn't buy the 968

then of course i moved to los angeles and discovered the need for air conditioning and the 405, both of which killed the idea of that car

now i'm not sure i could go back, even though i no longer commute the 405, and could add air conditioning to the car

i look at that list, and having seen other stuff since, and seen those cars today, i couldn't do those either, as i've since lost the interest in them - reality of the build quality has since become an issue, and i'm tool old to tinker with japanese cars

funny how our perceptions change

Forgot about the NSX, the best car by far of the bunch, but also by far the most expensive. However, and this is just my personal opinion, I find the Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 to be one of history's ugliest, most bloated, and most overrated cars.

I had a 93 RX7. Wonderful car. Had to sell it when my second daughter was born. Looking back, I wish I had bought a new 968 instead, because, with its small back seat, I could have kept it, which means I would have the only original owner 968 in the forum. But it was so ridiculously overpriced (and relatively underpowered) that it didn't even enter my mind. As Flash said, how perceptions change...

Huge fan of N/A. however, the most potent versions of all these cars happen to be turbocharged. Its unfortunate Porsche only built 18-20 Turbocharged 968's and didnt import a single one here.

As for the Supra TT, the car was driven up from Florida by the original owner and traded for an Acura RDX. As it sits today, it has a nudge over 40K miles.

off topic - i've been trying to get a handle on how many turbos were actually built - not just the 14 and 4 we know about - turns out there were a few chassis built that never got completed by the factory, but later were outside that - presumably spares for the racing program

Yes, they built several extra Turbo RS chassis. Dont know the exact number or if they have any left.

The 3000GT is actually a hard top convertible. That car cost 65K new.

Some sources list 16 Turbo S cars, while others list 14. What is the real story.
Someone should compile a list of VIN's (with colors & options) for all the OEM Turbo's built....
