I LOVE MY NEW INTAKE
#1

nope - sorry guys - not for the porsche - i just installed the K&N intake on my 98 grand cherokee (with which i will be towing the porsche) - turns out the "beer keg" intake manifold system on the 5.2 liter V8 (that's dodge 318 for you older guys) can benefit a lot by the cold air intake

25.7 Horsepower!!!

that's right - k&n gave me dyno charts to prove it - and man can you feel it too - HOLY COW!

those guys did a great job

25 ponies ?! that has to be a record for an intake upgrade on any car ..short of forced induction..

Most trucks and SUVs are extremely undertuned. They benefit extremely well from intakes and exhausts. They get a much bigger increase in power and torque than a car because they tend to have such large displacement. My Expedition 5.4 only has 225hp and 300tq to give you an idea.

That's really cool, Flash. Now you can get your baby to the track even more quickly! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

that's the idea - now i'm not going to be limited to where i go or what i carry

also putting on some 275-55-17s over the 225/75-16s on 17x8 rims instead of the 16x7s - also installing eibach progressive 1" lowering springs, bilstein shocks, and rear coil airbags

tht gives me 270hp and 350+ lb/ft and a much better handling tow rig with ZERO loss in load capacity - in fact it has increased by about 500#

woohoo!!!

now I'm wondering if having one installed in that snail-pace Pathfinder of ours might give it a bit of umph you can actually feel, or the engine is so pathetic only a series of mods ( and a good chunk o' $$ ) would yield any material performance increase..

this is the basic engine '98 model - not the 220hp ( 240hp ? ) they came up with one or two years later

I just looked up the specs: for a 3.3 liter engine it has only 168 sad ponies and 198 torque, trying to pull 3,600 labs of weight. That's just pathetic.

It'll be an uphill struggle to get anything that does not cost a fortune to make it more spirited. But must start somewhere, so if the intake set up helps it even marginally ( by the way, I have a K&N filter in there, but in the regular factory air box ) it'll be the first step.

Why would the stock air intake be so restrictive?

I've got a Toyota Sequoia with a 4.7L V8 engine that puts out less HP than our 3L 4-cylinder engine.

There is mention of a 'cold-air' intake from Performance Products; but I never really believed their claims.

Flash, did you do anything else to the engine..chip? Did you have to get it re-tuned because of the increased air?

sorry - just noticed this

not sure why the beer-barrel manifold and stock intake is so restrictive - just know that the kit really works - k&n publishes charts to show it - i've also talked with them about it - this intake is the most restricted of any intake that k&n makes a kit for, so bully for me, i got the biggest gains - woohoo!

runs a touch cooler too

done nothing else to the engine - runs great - smog legal too
