My First 968
#1

I just acquired a 1993 968 coupe(drove 4 hours to look at it then purchased on the spot), it's my 4th Porsche and first front engined Porsche, I'm hoping to get a lot of advice and ideas on mods from this forum.

Its midnight blue with Tan interior coupe and manual trans, unfortunately it doesn't have the M030 option but it's an unmolested car so i'll take it's virginity LOL.

Welcome,

See Local Events and make plans to join us for "Takin' it to the Street" in Newtown, PA May 20-22. This is a great opportunity to meet other owners and put faces to names.

Best of luck with your purchase,

Jay

Hey, welcome aboard! Since you've never had a front engined version, congrats on picking a 968--it's the last and best of the breed. Tip: if you ever do HPDE track events, request an instructor with 924 or 944 or 968 experience for a few laps. Most instructors have 911 lines in mind as they go around, which just doesn't work with the nearly 50-50 weight distribution of a 968.

Enjoy your car, and most of all, have fun!

Congratulations! I drove a total of 7 hours today to look at a car, but didn't end up buying it. The search continues!

Thanks all for the great advice. I've been searching around for ideas on wheels and performance mods once i've verified the mechanicals are sound.

Here's a list that i have so far:

Tune up

Timing belt, balance shaft assy , water pump, check chain and sliders/guides(vario ram stuff).

I'm concerned about the torque tube bearings clutch assy and ring&pinion issue.

Shifter vibrates a bit so would like to fix that.

Once that is settled then i'll do a few perf mods:

Suspension(bushings, shocks , anti roll bars) and Brakes

Alignment

Light weight flywheel and clutch (will do this when working on torque tube)

CHip & exhaust (stil trying to decide if i should get header or not) & airbox mod

I'm torn between using RS barn and my regular porsche mechanic (Powertech).

Ultimately i plan to turbocharge the car if I enjoy it after these mods.
