moving Targa GTS to ireland?
#41

You guys do realize that Flash's move to Ireland is borne out of many years of frustration living in Orange County ( a heavy Republican Party demographic ,..surprisingly so , given the State it's in , but hey that's the birthplace of , and hub to the John Birch society ) so he's practically surrounded by the new ruling party of this country. But that's ok, because as a deeply religious and devout catholic Flash, will blemd much easier in Ireland . :-) .

Don't forget his easy to get along with and pleasant personality. Although I'm somewhat asared for him because he always agrees with everyone and I'm not quite sure how well that will play over there.

True, lol. But it's all good though, because knowing flash's OCD and the level of diligence in checking any and all possible scenarios and contingencies, to a granular level, followed by careful planning for those, I'm sure he's checked every single pro and con and expectations associated with living in Ireland. Did I mention that in case your electric power is interrupted you'll need about four months to have it restored ? But he's getting solar panels so that takes care of that . Of course if those break down you need to wait until the following year's summer solstice before it can be kick-started again...that's after you fill out several applications which need to be approved by a number of regulatory agencies. All one needs is lots and lots of patience if you want to have things done , and as long as you have that tolerance ,..pretty much everything else works out well ..

"You have to wait four months for repairing the electricity"

We talk about Europe. Within four houres it is repaired. We are not america.

Do not ever think that america is the country where things are the best organised.

Go further on with dreaming DS968.

not the most organized.  just the least expensive.  people here seem to forget that too.  we have it good here, and take it for granted.  i am so sick of hearing people complain about their taxes.  we pay nothing in the way of taxes, compared to any other civilized country.

Yep. For every euro here you spent on gas you will pay 62 cents of tax.

Regular tax on goods is 21% and 6% on food as well. Incometax is maximized at 52%.

And do not forget local tax on electricity and the value of your home and the tax for having a car for roaduse.

We also have here luxurytax that will make your car twice the price as in america.

But we do not complain. We like to live and we have no speedlimits in central europe. What else would we must have more to wish?

yup - it is absolutely nuts to not require that everyone have insurance of some sort.  too many people think it's ok for them to not get coverage, and then dump their hospital bills on on the rest of us.  that's why we need a single payer system.

back on topic - it has been insanely difficult to even get any companies in ireland to give me a ball park estimate on insurance.  they all want specific information i cannot give them yet.  i only needed something plus or minus 1000.  basically to know if it was going to be over or under 3k.  most of them just refuse.  heck, most of them won't cover any car this expensive.  absolutely crazy.

Obviously I made that remark in jest, and deliberately exaggerated for sarcastic effect . Some may misinterpret it. I lived in Europe for 15 years and traveled extensively to various places around the worlld ( although the majority of that has still centered around Europe ) for another 45 years. There are pros and cons to any given country , but if we take a continent as a whole, Europe does offer a great deal of life-affirming value that U.S. doesn't . The peace of mind that comes with safety , with health care, with the balance between work and " life " are huge factors which I personally find very compelling . But let's not try to compare the convenience of having anything and everything available at your disposal , and in abundance , in close proximity , at every moment of the day and night , with virtual light-speed ability to get most things done., by comparison to just about anywhere in Europe . On top of it all, the philosophy of what customer service is differs so vastly, it's a night and day comparison. And then there's the bureaucracy ...let's not even start on that...we can dedicate an entire thread to it. I conduct business affairs with many European countries ( in addition multiple Asian countries ) where we have operations, and the stifling bureaucracy causes so much waste of time and money to the point where much of it becomes complete nonsense. That's all I was making a reference to vis-a-vis Flash's move there , knowing his standards , demands and related expectations re any given task .

Flash, is this any use?

You might be able to make up the answers you don't have for now, instead of having to explain to someone who can only deal with the script on their screen.

That site lets you choose the car by make and model if you don't know the registration number, no good?

I would say it would depend in where you are going to live over there whether it is worth taking the car over, are there places available to drive it and enjoy it? I assume near a major metropolis for lawyer type work.

there are places out in the country where you would have the space to open it up, but the road quality doesn't really allow it.  it's just not a good car to have there, and with the costs just to have it being as high as they are, i cannot justify it.  i would be looking at every bit of $8k a year just to have the car, let alone operating expenses.

Why aren't you moving to the island Man? No speedlimit and you could be the neighbour of clarkson. And between ireland and great britain located..

And very good quality of the road.

That is what I thought just from my limited knowledge of current conditions there. I may have to dust off my Irish passport and come for a visit.
