My 968 came with cupholders installed in that exact spot. The passenger one is OK (for the passenger), but the driver side one is a pain, since it gets in the way as I am shifting, so I never use it. Reaching all the way over to the passenger side is dangerous while driving, so I will relocate the driver side one to the passenger side of the center console (as Flash has it).

The car does not have a cupholder...Period. Get over it. - lol

Do what I do...stop and have a cold or hot beverage of your choice...It gives you a break and time to stop and enjoy yourself and gives the car a chance to catch it's breath...

The next thread is probably going to be "More Holster....." Yikes!!!!

Sorry...how about a camelbak? You could combine your beverage with your lumbar support and in the winter, put coffee or cocoa in it and it will keep you warm while the top is down...

Tried that. Also tried a gyroscopic mount on the chassis brace. Worked great until we tried to retrieve the drink.

That's pretty rough on the vents in my opinion and with my interior I would never find a replacement if something broke.

Besides, the only time I drink water is when it is diluted with scotch.

As for the vents, the right side (where I attach the cupholder) is actually a faux vent and quite substantial. I suspect the cupholder will break long before the fake vent cross piece.



As for the scotch, a single malt in a snifter with a water back is the way to go IMHO. Ice and water are for Chivas and Johnny Walker Black.

If enough people wanted one, the guy at Bird Automotive might be convincd to make a center console add-on with cupholder option. I am assuming it would fit the 944 as well. He's not cheap by any means. I have one for a 996 and for older 911s up to 89. The older 911 was his first run at Porsches and its fairly rudimenatry but makes the interior much more livable, plus it's huge. There's a ton of storage space. The M96 model is much smaller and probably more like what he would have to do with the 968 interior. The M96 version integrates into the factory center console, rasing it up abiut ~2 inches, the cupholder option folds out of the front and is only viisble when in use. I've looked at trying to modify it to fit the 968, since I no longer have a 996 and the one I have is too long to fit a Boxster, but there's no way to make it fit without cutting it. I can see how he could start from a different pattern and dimensions and make the design work though. For that matter, some of you guys might be able to re-design the 996 version to make it work. I never could understand what made it so expensive, other than he could get his price. Manufacturng costs may be a lot more than I think but there's just not enough material to justify his price.
