Flash - from my review of the available options in countless threads, and as you point out in your initial post, it seems a 'like factory' solution is something of a holy grail.

For those considering their options I would say the plus side of the wedgie is that you don't have to drill any holes or otherwise modify the car and at 8$ it is a low cost functional solution. I readily admit it is a bit clunky though especially if you plan to use it often.

Carl968 - is this what you are thinking of? http://inventivaconcepts.com/air-1.html

Also came across an interesting article on the history of the cup holder: http://www.slate.com/articles/business_a...ingle.html

Inked - Yeah 45$ is steep, if I were going that route I would try to make my own. I decided against it though as that design seems to invite spillage all over the carpet.

There's always this solution:

I'm sorry. I'm done - lol

robbgerard - no that 's not it.

it appeared to be constructed of a rigid type foam material and it had a lip on the bottom that slide between the floor mat and the carpet. The weight of the cup and the material seem to keep it in place. I think that if you search "cup holders" it is there. I'll look and try to find it again.

Inked, thanks for the classic pics; one in particular gave me a good chuckle.

I'm feeling a wedgie coming on; running out of old shoes to use.

Here is an update on what it might look like installed. Once I decide the finish, it should look pretty close to being OEM... Oh yeah..I know I know..I have some of the sexiest legs you have ever gazed on... so no comment is needed..

MB968 You are welcome for the pics - glad someone thought they were funny. I have a weird sense of humor.

That is a lot of work for a cup holder. I think I will just let my wife hold my beverage. She has better legs too! lol

Keep going, maybe you could send in for a patent or something. Maybe you could license the product to...I don't know....Design 1 Racing maybe...hmmmmm

lol - i was more thinking about the fashion foul of the flojos with socks than the sexy legs. if you can see the toe a sock is a no-no

I was going to ask about the white socks and sandals....But thought better of it but as long as Flash opened the door, I might as well walk right in!

lol - yup - bad fashion foul. it's like wearing dark socks with short pants.

but back to the cupholder. i don't want the liability from the spills from closing the door, so he's on his own marketing that puppy. might work, but i'm just not there. i don't have map pockets there on the blue car either, as i switched to the 944 parts, so i can't test it

but continue on. the market definitely wants a good cupholder for this car.

I can see it would work as far as closing the door with a bottled product that had a tight lid, but then you really don't need a cup holder.

I would think it would be easier to mod something that sat on the rear deck behind the seats instead of cutting up a door.

Bermuda just called - they put a bounty on your head ! But yeah, national heritage or not wearing dark sox with shorts is simply WRONG..heck that's one step above white sox with sandals , LOL ! Could have at least have adopted the kilt & sox look from Scotland..now, that's perfectly acceptable attire :-) :-)

I have a pair of sandals that I bought 7 years ago when we moved here. Number of times worn = 2

Kilt huh? If you go regimental beware of sudden wind gusts.

And that's where a cup holder could be beneficial :-). ( in this case what holds the cup in place would be a strap, but see how quickly we're back on topic, lol ?! )

Youse fashionistas slay me. It has become acceptable for golfers to wear dark socks. Now don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be caught dead with them on but who am I to criticize others. No mention was made of the shorts that Ron was wearing. Perhaps black or blue socks might have provided a wee bit of a flair! Lol

A wee bit of flair? Rick Flair? Nah, who needs it. Everyone who knows me makes fun of me because since I moved to Florida 7 years ago I can count on two hands the number of times I have worn dress slacks/jeans. It is at the point now when I get invited to a serious social function, my friends say that I have to "wear my big boy pants" - But with my shorts, it's ankle white socks and new balance only.

What about something that fits into the ashtray and hangs over into the passenger well?

lol..i actually had some jordan's on with my white socks and just walked in the house to put on the sandals.... In regards to the cupholder..for me it works by the door as the only time I would use the cupholder is when I am inside the car. So leaving a cup while the door is open or closing it is never an issue as the holders would not be in use.

Hmmm

I can't count the number of times I've pulled up some place and left the cup in the car
