Monterey Historics Laguna Seca
#1

I will be going to the Monterey Historics on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I'll be parked at the Porsche Corral, located at Turn 5. I expect I'll be spending my mornings cruising the pits and the afternoons at various favorite spots.

Anyone else planning on attending?

Richard, I am sorry I missed you on Saturday. I did find your business card.

It was announced on Sunday that the featured marque at the Historics for 2009 will be Porsche. Wouldn't it be cool if we could get a bunch of 968's to show up for the Porsche Corral. We own a rare and beautiful Porsche model, why not get a bunch of them together to celebrate Porsche at Laguna Seca?

If you have never been to the Historic races at Monterey, you'll enjoy the experience. I saw some incredible race cars, Porsche and otherwise this past weekend, including Mario Andretti hot lapping in the very same Lotus Formula 1 car he won the world championship in. The sound that a Cosworth Ford V-8 makes on a wide open throttle is as distinctive as the sound of a Rolls-Royce Merlin V-12 in a Spitfire or a P-51 Mustang.

I was at the Historics 10 years ago when Porsche was featured. If you love these cars, I can promise you that you will not be disappointed. The Monterey Bay Chapter of the PCA organizes a Porsche Corral every year so all we would need to do is sign up and I should be able to arrange for all of the attending 968s to park together. Here is the official announcement I received today.

Well folks, the long awaited announcement was made at the award ceremony for the 2008 Historics. Porsche will be the featured marque at the 2009 Monterey Historic Automobile Races.

What does this mean for you? First of all - make your hotel reservations NOW! Second, the Monterey Bay Region is working to step up the process and bring you some exciting events to look forward to in 2009. So, stay tuned for additional announcements. Please be sure to keep your contact information (and especially your e-mail address) up to date in this database as this is the means I will use to get the word out. You may wish to consider including a personal e-mail address when you give a work address. By having the dual e-mail address, when you change jobs, we will still have a way to contact you with information and updates.

Stay tuned for more updates in the future.

I know that is a year away, but as the announcement says, reserve a room soon if you plan to stay the weekend, otherwise just come on Saturday. What do you all think, anybody interested?

I'll post a few pictures from this weekend. I got a great shot of a Porsche Turbo with a trail of flame coming out of the tail pipe as he got off the throttle for a turn.
