Momo Steering wheel upgrade question
#1

Has anyone changed to a momo steering wheel? If so, which hub did you use and was there any problem with the horn?

Yes, I have a momo mahagony wheel. I don't recall the hub number, but it is the same as the 944 obviously. There are a few sites that will tell you which number you need. There is no problem with the horn, you just need to exhange the horn/airbag clock spring with the basic 928.part# push in contact. Do some searching on the forums, and you should find what you need.

Which style are you considering? I've always liked Momo wheels, and would like something with a slightly smaller diameter than the stock wheel.

I am still debating between 4 models and the alternative of having the factory steering wheel modified by ALGA. The momo Im considering are the X-Avion, the Corse pilota 2, the commando R and the Millenium Evo. I would prefer doing the ALGA modification but the cost is over $500.00 to do and a minimum of 3 weeks.

I've never heard of the ALGA modification? What is that? Do they run it through a washer/drier using hot water to shrink the durn thing? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Actually, its AGLA. You can find them on ebay or AGLAUSA.com. They can do some amazing stuff with leather. here are a couple of options that I was considering with the oem steering wheel     ,     . I was going to match the wood trim in my console and do the extra padding and anatomic grip like in the boxter steering wheel.

I have had a Momo Race wheel on the 968 since the 2nd day of ownership, It is a far

thinner rim and makes the car feel much more comunicative than the standard CS wheel.

I also have a Momo type 74 (I think ) fitted to my S2. Again I think it is an improvement over standard

in both feel and looks.

They are easy to fit, however neither of my cars had airbags to deal with.

ron1688,

I did change stock airbug wheel to MOMO model 07 rally wheel few years ago.

I like very much because of "offset"

Well,at that time,I checked 968.net forum;

http://65.61.16.109/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10244

(you will know how to cancel air-bag without cutting wire by sled of Greimann's)

And,all you need parts except MOMO hub are;

1) horn contact plate(928 652 104 00)

2)lining(944 552 073 00 w/o cruse control) or (944 552 073 01 w/cruse control)

- you should better confirm parts detail at local porsche dealer -

3)1/2 watt 3 ohm resistor

IMPORTANT

1)you should disconnect battery to avoid explode airbug.

2)you must take time at least 1 hour after disconnec battery, and then remove an airbug wheel.

(it takes time atl east one hour to release electricity from the air bag)

3)Unfortunately,airbug caution light are coming after installing new wheel,

you just go Porsche center to turn off by hummer.

4)I don't know if passenger-side-air bug dose still work or not when crashing.

good luck,

ken

I think the grant and MOMO hub have a different bolt circle to mount the steering wheel (they are unique to each other)

I am about to do a Momo wheels.

I will be getting the Mod .07 wheels and MO-7004 hub.

What are these 928 contact plate and different lining being talked about? Where can I get them?

Thanks,
Randy

928 contact plate is required for horn operation. Otherwise, pressing the horn button will not complete the horn circuit. Another shop didn't know the trick (using the 928 part) and rigged up something with a curly cord and radio shack parts. I didn't like it so I took it to RSBarn and had it done right. I tried to get the trim piece (with cruise control) but Pelican can't get it. Does anyone know where I can get this piece?

Which parts do you need? I have signal stalk and trims from a non airbag 944 if you need them.
