#1

Please Volunteer or Nominate a member to be a moderator. If nominated please email me accepting the nomination so I can add you to the poll this weekend. Please put your name down or the nominees name down in a post along with the the group. The polls will be available sometime Friday, voting will run through the weekend. Voting ends Midnight Sunday the 9th. Everyone is encouraged to participate!

A Moderator is basically a participating member that watches over the forum. This person needs to have a level head when it comes to moderating the forums in a fair unbiased way. They will have the ability to edit, move and remove posts or topics they feel is in the best interest of the board. If you are willing to take on these responsibilities please let us know. It is an important aspect of the new 968 community.

I appreciate the nomination. Before indicating whether or not I'm able to serve, I need to better understand the function and responsibility - and how the moderator moderates. Is it a real time function? Do posts get sent to the moderator before they're actually posted? Is it an after-the-post editing responsibility? Eric has written something about the general nature of the moderator, but I guess what I'm seeking is more operational guidance.

The site has "Moderator" functions that regular members do not see. You can move topics, close topics, edit all posts, warn members, etc. The most important aspect a moderator needs to take into consideration is that this is a peaceful environment. We need the moderators to make sure the topics fall inline with the forum category and that members are respecting each other. The Moderators will be responsible for keeping peace on the forums. If a member or a thread is getting out of hand the moderator needs to step in and make a judgement call. Do I need to "Close" the topic, warn the member by PM and edit their post. Or step in tell everyone that they need to remember the rules of respect. We also want the topics in the specific forums to stay on topic. I will show all of the moderators how to use the tools. It is a job for someone that has the time to monitor the board throughout the day. Also the ability to understand how the tools are used to make changes to posts.

I will be in contact with everyone that has been nominated or volunteered Sunday evening. I think we will have a spot for just about all of the volunteers. I really apreciate the support the site has been given by everybody!

Thanks,

Eric

Larry I said anyone could be nominated or volunteer. However you do need to be a member. It is hard to moderate a board if you don't use it or better yet register.

I'm a member or at least I listed in the membership list. I've got 7 posts so far. I don't understand your comment.

just a note on moderators - i suggested to eric (and he agreed) that nobody who has been in a big skirmish on the other sites in the last year or so be eligible to be a moderator - that includes me - this will keep any political and/or personal issues from entering into the equation, freeing the moderators of any perception of bias or impropriety, and thus enable them to adequately do their job

This is something that I thought was very important too. I know bob would have been a great candidate because he is on the board so often. He came out and said I am not the right guy for this Job but Dave is.

I have changed the status of Duckman and Greimann to uphold the responsibility of moderator. I am also adding a few members from the list above on the moderator list this weekend. I am still waiting for a response from those people. You do need to be somewhat technically savvy because there are some basic Forum tools you will need to understand. I think moderating this forum is very important for the success.

I am not acting as a moderator, I will leave it up to the appointed moderators to make level headed decisions. I will simply act as the admin.

It is an honor and privilege to be elected to this post. Normally I avoid conflict whenever possible, so I'll let Duckman do all the dirty work <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> Walk softly and carry a big stick I say. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Anyway, this is a good group. The problems typically come from trolls and interlopers, so I don't think there will be very much need for intervention. I mean, what troll can afford a Porsche anyway. Last time I heard, sitting under a bridge didn't pay very well. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

But make no mistake about it, should someone disturb out happy homeland, we will hunt them down like the dogs they are and make them pay with their blood! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/ohmy.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Uhhhhh ... was that a little over the top <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wub.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Anyway, suffice to say:
