968s still supported by Porsche?
#41

After I picked my car up in Portland OR, and drove it over 3.5 days to Massachusetts, I happened to have an oil change appt for the other more modern p-car I had at the dealer.  Other than high prices, I actually like my dealer.

So I asked to have that car brought in and change the oil and go over it after nearly 3k of driving in less than a week (BTW car performed flawless)

So other than having the inside of both tires worn to the belt (dodged a bullet there)  The only other issue was the front of the engine needed to be resealed.  They gave me a quote, said they would do it if they could, but they did not have the special tools.

So off to the indy to get done (after a new set of tires).

Spring of 14 I think, great weather no rain.  Just headed to i90 from Portland pretty much and had my version of a canonball run!  Not the first time I did this trip, so didn't stop to see much.

Guy named Mikey who was active in PCA as a DE Instructor.  Long story short when I was looking for this car, it was in NJ, and the original owner was active on lists I was on, but didn't think it was what I wanted, so never reached out, even though he saw I was looking and he wanted to get rid of it, he traded to a dealer in Ohio for a Cayman Spyder and it was then bought and shipped to Oregon (I am from Seattle originally, makes me want to move back to the west coast!)

After being a 968 guy for a while, he decided to move to 911 after a year of this one (he had a few well known cars on here I believe)

Car wanted to get back home o the "right" coast Smile

I know there is a lot of 911 bashing on why are those cars more cherished, valuable than ours, but I believe we can thank them for this, the rise in restoring and value in 911s, makes Porsche take notice:

You can let Porsche know of NLA parts and they will take in consideration the re-manufacuturing of them.

My understanding for a lot of manufactures, when they no longer make parts, they would still allow dealers to request them on back-order, and if there were enough, they would do a run, much like Flash is doing here.

This gives us the op to request.

So fill it out often, I do!

In fact I see Porsche taking this more serious, as a sort of aftermarket program, to make more revenue and recognize that we may pump 10s of thousands into cars, and they can be in on it.

These web sites show that.

Wow, just opened those links and to say that I'm both surprised and impressed would be an understatement . But cautiously optimistic only, because I would expect depending on the volume demand for any given part Porsche may deem the production of the specific item to be not feasible , or prohibitively expensive to the buyer . But I suppose they deserve the benefit of the doubt ..
