Exhaust Vibration when car is stationary
#1

All of the parts are OEM.

My 1995 coupe has an exhaust vibration. I rev the engine and a vibration is felt in the accelerator pedal and through the floor. It feels like the exhaust is vibrating. When the car is stationary, I rev the engine. At 1900 RPM with the shifter in neutral, the shifter will suddenly move about 1/4 inch or so. The motor mounts were just replaced. Could it be the motor mounts? Are there other mounts that should be changed? The vibration seems to come from the engine compartment through the floor. The tech checked for loose mountings and did not find anything. He also was the tech that changed the motor mounts. The original motor mounts were still in the car (at 93K miles) before being replaced.

In normal driving the vibration is not noticeable. It is noticeable when I accelerate.

Recently belts, shaft, etc. were replaced when I had the engine maintenance performed earlier this year.

the shifter moving is not uncommon. it's a long linkage to the rear, with a lot of slop along the way.

obviously you need to look at the exhaust to make sure none of the heat shields and such are vibrating, and also check the pipe against the center tube.

failing that turning up anything, if i had to guess, i'd say that when the belts were done, they were not done correctly, and you have a balance shaft in the wrong orientation. happens a LOT, even with mechanics who swear they know what they are doing.

I go for the balance shaft theory. Definitely.

I also wonder what a failing DMF must feel like... Just thinking out loud.

similar vibration, but also some backlash on and off throttle, particularly at shifting
