Life after SC

Again, today, being a silly bugger on a club event. Screeching around a corner as the wheel with no grip gets all the SC can offer. Do I hear a Guards LSD coming up for a trade in? <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I'd like the OSG but the 2K+ is a bit much after the engine rebuild and SC.

I have Pete's stage 1 chip, airbox mod and exhaust. Before the LSD, I would sometimes spin inside rear wheel coming out of second and third gear corners. Definitely not a "mandatory" track mod, but nice to have for DE events. You'll notice it on the street too, in wet weather particularly.

i'm super sensitive about noises, especially in an enclosed car like the hardtop - you've lived with that diff for a while now - did it bug you? does it still bug you? or are you just dealing with it?

Noise seems to be from the lightweight flywheel on decel, not the LSD. Had a similar noise from my previous car (Mini Cooper S) with a lightweight flywheel on decel. You learn to avoid the patterns that cause the noise, or you just tune it out.



It seems to me that if the noise were from the LSD, it would occur on throttle, not on decel. My brother has a Subaru WRX with a clutch-type that clunks loudly on throttle in a corner as the clutch plates slip. The tighter the corner, the louder and more violent the noise. You can actually feel the clunking shaking the car. The OS Giken has no such problem. It is butter smooth on engagement. In very tight parking lot maneuvers, if you really listen and concentrate, you can feel the tiniest of clunks, but nothing during normal use.

yeah - i know what the flywheel related sound is - but it was that kind of clunk thing, as well as just a bit more of a whirr at lower speeds than the other diffs make - might have been something else, but i heard it in both your car and jay's, which is why i asked



again though, it hooks up very nicely, and i would have no hesitation running it in a track car

Your clunk-o-meter must be very finely attuned. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I had not noticed anything out of the ordinary. Perhaps if I still had the OEM dual-mass flywheel I could notice something.

maybe - it's probably just from driving too many cars with the specific purpose of listening to them - my wife never hears any of the stuff that i do - no worries - i've got a couple of noises in my blue car that are making me nuts - the flywheel nonsense is one of them - that thing may yet come back out
