If you do go I-10 there is a road over the San Bernadino mountains from Palm Desert (74W) that is well worth the detour. Beautiful scenery and a very fun road to drive. Try to hit it in the morning or lag a bit to let traffic clear in front of you. Your SC will thank you...

i have driven all 3 routes now in recent years - i agree - 40 is the best - they all suck, but at least 40 seems to go faster, as you don't spend so much time in texas - having the states change helps the brain

Yes, there's nothing quite as grueling as driving through Texas. Other than possibly the Indian reservation in easter Arizona. Now that's some bleak landscape...

i don't mind spending time in texas, but driving through it is nasty (though i did get to open it up to redline for a few minutes)

Thanks for the advice on the route guys.

Man, I need to get my car back soon before I do something crazy. I have been looking at 993s non stop for the last 24 hours! I might go look at a 96 993 targa black on black this week. Just to look! I eventually want a 993tt, but not sure if now is the right time. I only have garage space for 1 car at the moment. Would be a shame to have the 968 or the 993 out in the cold.

Mrmister,

As you know, I happened to be in the passenger's seat today when Pete took your car on it's first test drive with the newly rebuilt engine and SC!

Even though the car was being driven conservatively to break in the newly rebuilt engine, it was FANTASTIC!
The aceleration at any RPM seemed very strong.
The engine was smooth, quiet, and well behaved. You wouldn't know anything was unusual, aside from the POWER, that is.
Hard to believe that this was it's maiden voyage with the SC.

I am sure you will be very happy with the result.

I was hoping that perhaps Pete would hand me the keys to the wrong black '92 coupe when I was ready to leave.
If you're too busy to make the trip to PA for a while, I'd be happy to take care of the car until you're ready [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img]

Hey Jamie, thanks for the report! Glad to hear you guys were driving conservatively, you should have joked about pulling burnouts around town and me needing some new tires [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img] I can't wait to drive it with the LSD and see how that feels.

I will keep in mind your generous offer to take care of my car.

Looks like we are pretty much done. Today Pete sent over this message "Your car runs awesome!!! Really fun to drive, especially with suspension noise gone and some real brakes."

I got the first draft of the bill. I can post it if anyone is curious as to what is all involved in getting your car supercharged "the right way" [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

After this little routine service, I am dangerously close to the purchase price of a 993 twin turbo. So yes, smelling salts are a must.
