Koni insert install 'strategy'
#1

Tech inspection for the upcoming DE mid june reveals that my front struts (non M030) are shot (shaft move around in the casing...). Great ! I was looking for an excuse to fit Koni Yellows !

Since I need to use the car on a regular basis I can't have it for a couple of days (yellow paint needs to dry..) without front struts so I ordered the conversion from Paragon. No luck, they are waiting for 968 cores to be returned.

I decide then to have the inserts shipped home and do the conversion using a pair of used 968 struts ordered from a nearby parts dismantler.

Everything arrived today and...the used struts (complete with springs and mounting plate) are 944 S2 parts ( <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> I think : part# 944.343.032.19 and 031.19)

The 944 parts appear very similar and seems to be in better shape than my originals (the shaft is not even moving around !) and I'm now tempted to temporarily fit these units and drive around as little as possible with an approximative alignment while I'm converting the original units.

What do you think ?

Should I simply do the conversion on the 944S2 units ? Will they fit ?

Should I send them back and 'risk' the conversion with the original struts and be without a car for a couple of days if not longer if I mess up ?

Thanks

Pascal
