Keyless Entry
#1

I have an inoperative keyless entry system, after market, a Prestige (Audiovox) APS-45. It was installed two owners ago and (according to the owner immediately previous to me) was working until the day I picked up the car. I have located owners and installation manuals. The owner that installed it noted on 968.net quite a while ago that it is wired into the Porsche computer under the passenger seat.

I cannot locate the computer under that seat, any sort of re-set or valet button, and do not have a wiring diagram for the computer.

Any suggestions?

The alarm computer is located under the footbard in the passenger footwell. Way up front on the firewall. If you pull on the carpet at the front edge you will start to expose the area.

One thing you might try is to disconnect the battery for several minutes (5+). Sometimes the receivers on the keyless systems reset themselves when disconnected for a period of time. The remotes then reprogram the receiver to talk to the first remote it "hears"

Pete, the computer that the keyless entry system interfaces is below the dash , under the front passenger compartment carpeted footwell. After pulling back the carpet, a wood cover is revealed, under the cover is the computer. Dave G has posted instructions on how to connect a keyless entry, including wiring diagrams.

Not to heist this thread, but - I was watching Overhaulin a week or two ago and they installed a door lock system on a Chrysler that was proximity activated - put your hand near the door and it opened. I think it was called Magic something-or-other. Did anyone see, and remember?

Yes, I saw the show and saw the car at SEMA in Las Vegas.

It is called Magic Touch.

Here is a thread that may be of some help: http://www.solsticeforum.com/forum/archive...php/t-7834.html

It does require you to touch the plate or use your key fob.

Reclaiming the thread... ;-)

I also have some kind of steady drain on my battery going on. I thought at first that it was just an old battery from Atlanta (where I bought the car) not handling the Denver cold. After purchasing a new DieHard, I came out yesterday to find it dead. Getting good charge while driving and it will come back up. But if it sits a while, dead again.

It seems that the first culprit to investigate is this inop keyless entry. I'm going to have a local shop pull out the old system, check out any voltage leaks, and install a new keyless system.
