Hello all,

 

i am new to this website, obviously.  i am looking at getting into a 968 cab after a long line of other p-cars.  928s, 944 cab,  964 targa, several 993's and my current 996 C4S cab.  The 996 is too nice to sit under a cover as much as it does.  Looking at a couple of supercharged cabs to replace it when it sells. Located in St Louis Mo and long time PCA member.  Wife's favorite car was the 944S2 and she won't drive the 996. So there you are.

Setting aside the only SC'd cab available for sale anywhere, which is listed on this forum,  I noticed for a while ( on almost all car sale sites - Autotrader, Carsforsale, Edmunds, etc, etc, etc )  that the overwhelming majority of 968s up for sale are cabs.. probably a 5 -1 or even greater ratio vs. coupes that are for sale .   Why do you guys think that is  ?

Joking aside of course, I can come up with a lot of anti-cab remarks, as I'm sure many of you will respond in kind with anti-coupe reasons,  but this is very curious to me..    Thoughts ?

Probably because there are more of them left. The cab driver tend to be true sports car enthusiasts and drive like one, most of the coupes have all been crashed by now.

I'm also guessing that's the case, many more cabs are weekend drivers as opposed to the daily drivers which tend to be in the coupes category , so ( the couples ) get beaten up a lot quicker , log on a lot more miles , and consequently die ( or crash ) sooner .


Seasonal factor as well, I suppose ..

You had to start this , lol. No, cab drivers never take the car past 30 mph, so the risk of crashing it is extremely low.

No 30 mph because as a sports car enthusiast you don't want to put your cars in any sort of dangerous position. Unlike us coupe guys who live for the edge consequences be damned!

After 30 mph, the cab chassis flexes so violently the drivers are almost thrown out of the car, and the wind blows their sun hats off their heads.. Ok, kidding aside now - Kaj , have you driven the cab with the top down at 130 mph ? Anyone here ? Wondering how strong the wind factor is at that speed in a cab, with or without the deflector installed ..

When an owner gets an idea about selling their 968, the cab lets those thoughts radiate out to the world and the cab ends up for sale.

 

The coupe with a fixed roof keeps those thoughts inside the owners head and they never act on the idea.

That's also a probable reason , lol. I haven't bothered to look where all those cabs for sale were located , I'll go back and check because I'm wondering if they're mostly in the milder / " fair weather " climate states ; Ca, Fl. etc..

No I never take the 968 up to 130. I did with my 944 Coupe once on my way to Reno. Living in Northern California opens a great opportunity to keep the top down most of the year. I would never drive a Cabriolet in any "cold states"........so Cab or Coupe....beauty is always  in the eye of the beholder.
